Can I get a cup holder????
Can I get a cup holder????
So far after about two weeks of ownership, my wife and I's biggest complaint is the lack of suitable cup holders  . I would trade the ash tray and lighter for a good set of cup holders in a second! We tried a couple cheappy wal-mart slip over the window frame deals but they do not stay put, the one built in the car puts holes in the cup/can ets.. and is in the way of my arm   Has anyone come up with a good idea for this problem??
i understand the germans were pretty upset about chrysler demanding that they put cupholders in it at all. that's how we got the one little marvel of modern engineering we have. they were completely baffled by the idea that the passenger needs one too since the passenger comes equipped with two cupholders already!
dan...think bunjee cords and long plastic hoses.

I saw one at http://www.bmpdesign.com . It's a fold away drink holder which you can attach in the right side of your center console or in the ashtray. It comes with gray, black and sand colors.
Product Numbers: Black.........139866..........$39.95
Gray..........139874..........$39.95
Sand..........139882..........$39.95
Good luck!

If looking for just a better single cupholder, Pep Boys and most big auto parts stores carry converter inserts which let you morph a small cupholder (such as in the Xfire) to one that will hold any size mug. These products vary in quality and stability, check your application I'm not aware of any product that converts a single cupholder into a duo.
Not sure I agree that the Germans at Benz were perplexed by Chrysler's cupholder request; I thought the SLK itself originally had 2 upfront, that were criticized for sort of interfering with the driver's vision.

I have found an option that works for me, but may not be conveniently available. I also have a Toyota Land Cruiser. Its center console has a lower large bin with a 2 cup holder rectangular insert that you lift out to expose the large bin beneath. This is in addition to the 2 fixed holders available between the seats & tons of others in the rear passenger areas. As a result, I've never had an occasion to use the console insert.
Ironically, this insert fits perfectly into the Crossfire's center console glove box. To use it, I leave the box door open up against the rear bulk head. There is still room left beneath the insert to store items in the glove box. I can't close the door with the cup holder installed. However, its only about 2 1/2 inches deep, so it easily fits behind the passenger seat until I need it. In use, it's far enough back that the cups are out of the way. Even though you have to reach back a little further, the cups are not in the way like the cup is when using the factory engineered nightmare.
It may be worth contacting Toyota to see if these can be ordered. It's a simple plastic extrusion. Nothing mechanical. I SHOULDN'T be expensive. My Chrysler dealer has a Toyota dealership next door. Next time in, I will attempt to get a part number, determine availability & cost.
