Green Stuff or Red Stuff....which one?
Read an add from http://www.ebcbrakes.com regarding the green and red stuff brake pads. Most post that I've read in this forum mentioned only the green stuff. Is there any reason why? Is it a new product? I would like to have the red stuff because it matches my blaze red Crossfire. :-)
The Green Stuff pads are for light competition (autocross) and street use and has very low dust. The red stuff is made for "Race Day" they are softer and will give off more dust than the green stuff. The different colors are different consistancies. The Green stuff are the cleanest. That's why I went with the Green. If I wanted dust producing pads I would have kept the stock pads, They are very good at giving off dust. :lol)
Well I think WM said you could just spray the pads any color you want... as long as it was those extremely hot with standing heat paints... like the stuff for Fireplaces and BBQ grills...
IMO I'd rather just buy it painted so im gonna wait till I see some new blue ones or standard silver / black...

they work great..95% less dust...no squealing...look factory.
cost about $140 for front & rear set. @ brakewarehouse.com (03' slk 320)

Something to consider before you jump into EBC's...

"I used EBC pads for their low dust and strong stopping power. I regret ever using EBC pads.
In 3000 miles they managed to ruin my brake rotors by causing them to warp!
This happened on two of my cars!"

Well, if my rotors warp then I'll do the vented rotor upgrade I want to do :P and I'll have learned a lesson about green stuff pads. But so far so good. I've put about 400 miles on them with no problems.
David,
Here's hoping this guy installed them wrong or something... Ruined rotors in 3,000 miles, sounds kind of extreme?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong... you can feel a "shudder" in the brake pedal as a rotor starts to warp and they can be turned before things get out of hand??? A few months after having new pads installed on my '94 Civic SI I felt a shudder. My trusted Honda tech said the rotors were warped. Had them turned and reinstalled... work great now.

Right... You will feel a shudder or a pulsing or surging feeling if the rotor is warped. C-4 Corvettes were really bad a warping rotors. I went through 3 sets of front rotors and 1 set of rears. I was autocrossing that car too.
Most warping happens when the rotors are overheated repeatedly and cooled down quickly. Like if you get the rotors hot and drive trough cool water or spray them with cool water when they are hot. Just brake friction by it's self shouldn't cause a rotor to warp regardless of the pad. The only thing I have seen pads do were metalic pads on a stock rotor would cause premature wearing of the rotors.
Not knowing the person that wrote this or what other factors might have caused his warped rotors... I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
