Garmin is great....but....I'm thinking of this Pioneer which comes out next month when I get my Crossfire. It runs about $1,500.

 Whew!!! That's a lot of $$$

I like the ique 3600 because it replaces my Palm Pilot as well as being my GPS.

AZ - I don't know if it is the best one or not - but it works for me!

They are fairly simple to install did my own, any competent radio specialist should be able to help if you don't fncy getting your hands dirty, or you could look at the Navman ICN630 not quite as good as the tomtom but all in one unit with just the power connection needed.

I don't know if it is the best, but I really like mine.

You can set up addresses or waypoints, and route to them, set up a route by selecting a point on the map, find nearby restaurants, hotels, and gas stations, etc etc.

The only downside is that you have to load the unit from maps kept on a PC. I bought a 256MB memory card, and that allows you to keep quite a bit pre-loaded. I would advise buying the largest memory card available, so you can load up lots of map area to the iQ3600

Now I am going to have to go back to my atlas, just to see how big the UK is in square miles..... I have Ohio, Pennsylvania, and south Florida loaded up, and I am over 60 MB!

And the stupid pink foo foo think is the Kleenex my wife says just has to be there.... I can't see it when I am driving, so she wins that one.....

:-)

8) jsisabella - I remember seeing something many months ago about the holder you have your garmin on, but I can't remember where. Could you please let me know where you bought it? The travel adapter we bought that sits on the console just doesn't make it in the Crossfire, which you probably already found out!! Thanks!

Vegas:

I also bought the travel adapter, and yuk.... But it turns out you still need it, so that money was not wasted!

I ordered the cell phone holder from crossfireshop.com ($30). Then I removed the holder for the garmin from the lead weights on the travel adapter. The screw holes almost line up which would have made this simple, but I had to enlarge them on the cell phone holder just a bit. I used a drill press, but a hand drill would work. Then I screwed the garmin holder to the cell phone braket, and finally installed the completed unit in the car. I routed the power cord under the console by just pulling it away from the carpet and pushing the cable under it.

There was a bit of "bounce" to the braket, so I placed a 3/4" felt pad under the bracket and against the dashboard. The felt pads are available at Lowes or Home Depot for about $1.

It took less than 1 hour to get this all modified and put together.

Glad you like it!

Hope this helps.

Oh, I almost forgot. On all the home improvement and car fixit shows, they always say how hard it was to do. I give this a out of on the difficulty scale.....

ops:

8) Thanks for the info - sounds like a lot of work, but worth it

I'm not sure about ordering from crossfireshop.com right now though. Sounds like nobody is getting anything they ordered. (Wonder where mighty went?)

I will print your information so I will have it - just in case. If you ever come across anything else that looks like it would work - please let me know.

PS - Went to my Chrysler Dealer and got a copy of the magazine and made sure I was placed on their mailing list. (Thanks for that too).

Vegas:

Glad to help you out. One of the great things about a forum like this is to share the ideas that work, and the ones that don't!

Not really that hard to do. Just a bunch of small steps. If you don't feel capable or have the tools necessary, send me your travel adapter and cell phone bracket (when you can get one!) and I would be glad to put them together for you. The second time would only take me about 15 minutes. Most of the first time was spend figuring out how to make it all fit together...

I think you are right about mightyjlr. He seems to have left the planet. Enough people, myself included, have tried to get him to at least say hi, but he is not biting. He needs to pull himself out of the hole he has dug himself into. I have been there, and it is is a killer.

If I find another source for the bracket, I will let you know.

jsisabella, great pics, nice set up with the Garmin. Might do something similar with the iPod. We use the Garmins for off-road trips in Death Valley and such. Which are fine for me because I'm usually not driving. Unfortunately for my everyday use I need something easier to read. I'm a victim of Lasik gone bad. I can see great in distance but I need reading glasses for reading, cooking, gardening and navagation stuff. So I'm going to need the larger print which the Pioneer or Alpine can offer.

23 more days til I test drive the Convertible....but who's counting?

Lord trying sending a PPM. Don't think you got it.

I like tom tom go. Do you know the size? does it re-route you if you go off the pre program map. IE for dirversion, accidents, or a mistake.

Can you get up date programs?
and last
how does it attach to the wind screen?

Thanks

Rabbit:

I am having that problem a bit more each year, and I have had no surgery.... Always been very nearsighted, but now the reading is requiring separate glasses. I keep waiting for the six million dollar man eyeballs to come on the market!! And I could live with just 10 to 1 zoom. The 40 to 1 would be overkill for me! :-)
