I'd listen to Psuperti, he's probably raced his auto NA car more than anybody on the forum. Lot's of good tips.
Has anybody tried running with their wing in the down position?
Less "parasitic" drag, can't hurt.
Fold your mirrors back.
Some racers even go so far as to put their wipers in a "vertical" position and pull the fuse to keep them there for less drag. Or remove them all together.
I know we're talking fractions of a second here, but that's what it takes to come out ahead of a Toyota Camry.

That was history from the seventies when My 750 Norton was Dominator. No wheelies just smoke. Still have the Norton. Gary

If you go to my site and to my YouTube videos you will see that I had 2 perfect launches against the Challenger SRT8 and Corvette pulling 3-4 car lengths at the line.

There are other tips, such as don't drive though the water, pick the best lane, watch the track temperature, tire pressure high psi in the front low on the rear, lower the weight, have very little gas, use 104 oct gas from the track... wind speed...planets alignment...pray...
Paul, did you get to talk to the vette owner after you spanked him!?

thanks fire+amx!

Yeah, the vette owner blamed his failure on his manual gear box. I'm glad I don't have that problem. I too have smoked mustang cobras (97 and 00) before but you know the new mustangs with the 5.0 are running too fast for the regular crossfire.

P.s. my windshield wipers have spoilers (PIAA).

Then rip those suckers off Paul.
Mine only has one, and it's on the passenger side. Thats probably why I forgot all about em.

Need some clarification for the Drag Strip with Auto Trans since I'm not familar with Padal Shifting.

When launching (Traction Control Off/in S mode)... should it be in 1 (first gear).... from there does it automatically shift to 2 (2nd) and so forth (based on RMP) on it's own...... or is it necessary to manually tap it into each gear along the way?

If launching and leaving it in 3 (like most all automatics).... does it actually launch as if it was in 1st gear... than shift by itself into 2nd, and 3rd on it's own, and finally into 4th going through the trap (if necessary)?

Crossing the Trap.... what gear is it usually in?

Just a little confused from what I've read to this point.

Another question....... on a dyno... what gear should it be in.... ie 3 or D?

The Crossfire was not designed for drag racing. Find a nice curvy back road and enjoy. I do. Gary

I see you are using a DRY shot. I read that you should aslways use WET only on our cars...see post #41

Ok here is what to do from start to finish.
put 45 lbs air in front tires and 30 in rear.,,work your way down to 20lbs no less with street radials,, drag radials set air 25 work way down to 15,
after each run lower the tire pressure by 5 lbs (((working your way down)))
1. go around the water box( no burn out with street tires) with drag radials you can do either ,,go around or go through then get a little burn out( burn out with TC off left foot on brake (about half pressure so rear tires will spin)
note any tire with tread will let water into groves and this water will run down while you are at the lights alowing you to spin.
now put the tranny in 1st gear,or just leave it in drive traction control (TC) off,, pull up to the tree ,first little light blub, light it,roll foward, light the second little light blub,, hold the brake withyour left foot,, when the yellow light just above the green comes on (((GO )) gass to the floor foot off brake the car will do the shifting for you, once you are off the track put your car back into drive otherwise you will be in 3 gear and may burn up the tranny if you gun it from stopped or very slow. have fun hope this helps jim

The basics leading up to launch I'm very familar with.
Wasn't sure how the paddel shift worked, and if one needed to physically shift into each of the following gears starting with 1 (1st).... Thanks!!!

On the instrument panel it shows what gear one is in (ie D, 1 etc)... when drag racing (track only) does the gear number change on the instrument panel as the car shifts itself when starting out in 1, or will it always show 1 until it's manually changed?

Have no plans to drag race the XFire..... my Goat takes care of that need (Track only)from time to time.... just want to have a better understanding of the XFire. On the other hand... might be interesting to see the wife run it down the local 1/8 mile track, instead of just being a spectator, and gain some hands on experience. Don't think that will happen, she enjoys being a spectator.

It was born on the street... racing from a stoplight. Gets you from point A to point B quickly (depending on how far apart they are)... although, probably not "efficiently" (depending on how you factor efficiency).
