Default 2006 Crossfire New Purchase Issue

The first day i purchased my used Crossfire the spoiler motor went out, covered under the warranty, but I was wondering if I did something wrong to cause the failure so soon? Any advice on this from the experts with perhaps a similar problem? Thanks

I would say NO . . . you just got lucky (or unlucky ??) . . . glad you had it fixed under warranty. . . .

Better yet get an SRT (or two). Then you never have to worry about the wing!

I think I may have read on here once where someone had a spoiler motor issue when the car was coated in ice from a storm and the spoiler would not go up because of that. I don't drive mine when it gets that icy or snowy, so I have never tried to raise the spoiler in this situation.

Really? Every SRT spoiler I have ever really looked at has had cracks in it and several of those were ones that had already been 'fixed'

I'm fairly certain this is the only situation that would cause the spoiler motor to fail prematurely, as well - if I know it might snow or ice over, I throw appearance to the wind and leave the wing up. It absolutely can't be good to be putting a bunch of force on (and thus current through) the motor, nor can it be good for the motor's drive linkage.

I would think that any type of winter driving in the Great White North would automatically dictate pulling the spoiler fuse for the duration. Even a thin coating of ice could mess up your wings motor.

On that note, the spoiler fuse is fuse 20.

I'm not sure what else might be on that fuse - a cursory skim of the service manual indicates that it seems to be only the spoiler, but I'm not sure. Someone mentioned that removing it stopped their wipers from working, which makes no sense via reading the manual but could be the case in real life.

the first time i read about about cracks in the coupe srt spoilers, i thought it must be related to owners using them as "handles" when raising/lowering the hatchback. not a good idea...i'm positive i'm the only one who's ever opened them on my cars. perfect shape.

The Aero and the SSB I sold have no cracks on the spoilers or supports... but like 'musicnsurf' I dont use the wing as a handle......

I don't have any cracks either... and I use those plastic'ish stand-offs underneath as my method of pulling the hatch down, so no smudges on the paint, and no damage to the wing either.

That's a good rule of thumb if you have the option not to drive it. If you don't, in the winter, it might be best to deploy it manually and leave it up if there is a snowstorm or ice storm. This way, the auto deployment is disengaged and you don't have to worry about it. Similar to leaving your wipers up so they don't stick to the windshield.

My spoiler is squeaking now so I need to pull the inside hatch cover and give her some grease. I may leave mine up until I get that done just in case.
