DCX is dumping Mitsubishi????!!!
I just read the shocking news on The Car Connection and Automotive News this morning. Check it out! It seems that the shareholders and the board are finally rebelling against Schrempp. My question is, is Chrysler next?

new york time has a bit more on that at:

for the moment, i would expect some fallout on chrysler because of the joint venture product issue but mistu had all kinds of problems of it's own and the big-picture issues do not seem to transfer to chrysler.
the target is still the u.s. market and chrysler gives them a full grown dealer market somewhat negating the benefit of mitsu.
it all still hangs on the success of the new models, the 300m etc and, although there does seem to be some positive news, it's still too early to tell.

Chrysler still owns a large chunk of Mitsu. They just decided not to invest any more into them at this time.
Obviously it was a good decision as DCX's stock rose just as that report came out. It has been a hard enough time getting investors confident in the merger between benz and chrysler. Now that they are finally showing positive results, why put it back in the hole?
Mitsu has a lot of issues to work out. Hopefully they can turn it around and get back on there feet.

I heard about this... and I questioned by is Mitsu doing so bad? they released the Evo a little while back and it seems everyone loves them! and the eclipse is doing wonderful... I guess its bad accounting or just horrible management that is bring them down ... its sad because i do enjoy the Mitsu line of cars
Yeah this was an interesting development. Hard to say what it means for Chrysler. I think if the shared Mercedes / Chrysler stuff works, like the 300c, than the Chrysler folks will do more sharing with Merc. and they won't need Mitsubishi. It makes sense to me, since they're trying to take the brand upscale. I believe the Sebring is a Mitsubishi with a Chrysler body, and while I'm sure it's a perfectly serviceable car, it looks dated and seemingly represents the past rather than the future.

Mitsu did a great job marketing to the younger generation. Along with giving loans to people who never had a history of good credit, put them in the hole. Especially with the zero payments zero interest for a year. Tack up 12 miles before making your first payment, don't want to pay for the car once you are required to. Car gets back to mitsu repo'd and no payments made.
The evo is a nice car for the money. It is a little tuned down from the jap version. 5spd tranny over the 6 and no electronic center active diff with yaw control. All in all, it is awd and packs a 4cyl turbo motor which can be easily modified to the tune of 500hp + without having to replace pistons, rods, crank, etc.

It sounds strange, but I also heard awhile back that Mercedes would not allow platform sharing with Chrysler like the Crossfire, that the Crossfire would be the last time Mercedes would share any major components except those that the customer didn't percieve. And I talked with someone I know at Mitsubishi over the weekend, and he thinks the Chrysler/Mitsu alliance will continue as planned, despite the possible selloff. If anything, it looks as if Daimler is pushing Chrysler downmarket...

Mercedies said they will not allow platform sharing with "visable" mercedies parts. Meaning the crossfire with similar exterier features and very similar interior features of the slk, will be the only car of its kind.
However, ecu, engines, transmissions, body structures, etc will still be used in platform sharing.
DaimlerChrysler wasn't pushing away anything by not bailing out Mitsu. Had that been true, they would have sold the stock they still have. Which is still a very large chunk.
But Danwell!!! IT CAN EASILY HAVE OVER NIGHT PARTS FROM JAPAN!!!
lol...
sorry I had to say it...
I dislike the looks of the evo... but the handling and power... wow!
I'll still take my Xfire

And it out performs and out handles a BMW M3 E33... But yeah, it's ugly. And the interior is worse than a Ford. Ford has actually gone up in the world in the last couple years.
