CALIFORNIA REQUIRES FRONT PLATES
Anyone out there knowledgeable on putting on license plate on the front of your CROSSFIRE without having to drill holes in the bumper? I am thinking of using velcro, as the thought of having to drill holes in my CROSSFIRE is tantamount to a sacrilege for me.
I would rather have to hassle taking them on and off than drilling holes. Any thoughts???
Those of us who live where front plates are not required "Feel Your Pain!!!"
Honestly, we really do.
No, do not use velcro. You'd loose the plate in no time. Besides, when you removed the plate you'd still have the velcro looking at you... a no win situation.
You don't indicate from which state you bought the car or the one where you live. If you bought the car in a state that requires front plates (ouch!!!) then the dealer is required to install the mounting hardware as part of the vehicle prep.
Somewhere else in the forum this subject was discussed. If I remember correctly some folks that live in a state that requires front plates took the attitude, "the hell with it". It's only a minor fix-it ticket if they did get stopped. Some also said they drove around like that for years and have never been bothered.
Another idea...   Get in touch with a tree hugger wacko group near you and ask them to take up the issue. Surely they can make a case that your state government is wasting natural resources making extra plates, harming the enviroment from needless paint fumes required to paint them or the midget pygmy spotted roach is in danger where ever that material to make the plate itself comes from.... Just a thought.
Good luck.
Oh, just to let you know how I really do feel your pain... I am retired from the US Air Force. In order to drive a vehicle on base you have to register the car with them. In turn you will be given not one, but "3" goofy looking decals to be placed on the lower left corner of the windshield. Trust me, it looks crappy. When going out to the base I go through the hassle of stopping to get a temporary day pass rather than put the stickers anywhere on my Crossfire... I will admitt
ops: my other two cars do have the stickers...

Oh, and to make it even better, as is also the case in DC and CT, radar and laser detectors are BIG TIME illegal. I've been looking at the K-40 "Undetectable" model, haven't found yet if it's invisible to the radar detector detector's that they use here in VA. :?:  :?:
As for the post regarding the front plate matching the color of the vehicle, I wonder if that's only for the Graphite? Cuz my front plate holder is grey, not matching my beautiful Alabaster AT ALL.

I asked the first sales guy at the dealership about the front plate thing... He told me not to worry about it. He said the car "wasn't designed to have a front plate."
I couldn't remember if the front plate thing was a state or local thing (I just moved up here from L.A. a few months ago), and forgot about it.
Guess I'll have to bring it back up next time I talk to 'em.

How strictly your state enforces vehicle codes is another story. Me, I'd see how long I can get away without one.
Another regulation to make something beautiful, ugly
 Why in some states do you need it mounted in the front and other states you don't??
I'm in california too and i've had my car for about 9 months and i don't have the front plate on....
did you get a ticket? if you did maybe you can just stick it on temporarily till the officer sees it then take it back off....

I just removed mine and panted the plugs I used to match the car... it cam out looking pretty good.
I was at the auto store picking up a new mit to clean the car and wondered if I could find something to fit in the holes. I found a box of various sized interior panel plugs (the plastic ones that have the smooth round outside that you have to use a thin pice of metal to remove) for chrysler vechicles. I also ran over to the spray paint section and grabed the one that I thougt looked closet (it was called graphite).
I found two differnt ones. one had a dimple in the middle so I went with the smooth version. I had to change the dimeter of the screw part with a utility knife and chop off the tip becase it was to long and was touching something.
I had an extra set of these so I figured I would experiment with them and then make the final pair when I had more time and the weather was better for painting projects.
Well I shot it with plastic primer, then some of the paint I bought and then I clear coated it.
It actually looks good and fits tight into the holes the dealership made in my poor bumper. When the weather is dry I will cut the other exact pair to fit and then paint the correctly.
I have a crummy pic (I only have a camera phone). I will try to see if i can do a gallery thing here and put it up.

Most cops wont bug you unless they want to tag you for something else, (I never did) if its mandatory in your state and the cops do it as a routine, get a color matching bra ( they lokg good), and attach the plate to the bra.
Did that once with my Firefox !
In Ohio is mandatory, but cops wont stop you for it, unless you give them PC.
In the last 4 years I lived in NJ, PA, OH and never had a problem, even drove my Jeep those 4 years with AZ tags and I was never stopped.
Good Luck !

I will pipe up about this one. I am in Colorado which requires a front plate. However, I refuse to put the plate on the new car, or my truck. I don't like the way they look. If a law enforcement professional decides to ticket for this offense, it is a $17 fine. I will take my chances...that is just a real cheap bottle of wine! Good luck :-)

Why in the world would you keep Arizona plates on your vehicle four years, especially when living in PA??? PA has very low rates... $24.00 a year.
Our system here in AZ is a value tax as is NV and CA. I paid $545.00 for first year tags when I bought the XF. I just sent in $53.00 for new tags on a 10 year old '94 Honda Civic and $165.00 on a '99 Jeep TJ back in Feb.
Not being rude but you must have more money than you know what to do with to keep AZ tags when you didn't have to... or maybe you just didn't pay the fee in AZ???
BTW: AZ and PA have only one tag... why would they stop you?
