Is it normal for the outside airtemp sensor to be 10 degrees off.I found some type of sensor above my drivers side foglamp just hanging any idea what sensor this is and where it goes.

 

If it's on the left hand side of the car it's probably the ambient air temperature sensor. This is located behind the bumper, is the lower grille off?

 

That hanging sensor is most likely your ambient air temp sensor, i.e. outside air temp sensor. It should be mounted right there and not hanging. The reading should be pretty close to actual IF you are moving. The car sitting in the sun may have it reading high until you get the air moving over it....

 

Heading to work this morning the sensor was still 10 to 12 degrees off.Is this a dealer part or I can get a autozone part because I truly think my sensor is bad.

 

My air temp sensor is haging too. I think I pushed it out when I installed my lower grills. Need to take the cover off the bottom behind the bumper and reinstall. I pushed it back up under the cover so it wouldn't get damaged. My try to do that today. I have two or three little things to do today if I have time.

 

Does anyone know exactly where this is? I know it's on the left side of the car, behind the fascia, but is there a mount for it? i would think so, based on what I've read...

 

The outside temp sensor is on the lower left( driver's side) of car. It mounts in the middle of the lower grille. It is pushed into place and snaps in to a holder. It just pops in.

That's what I had to know! I'll put mine back in the right place when I put the fog lamps back in...

 

My temp is stuck at 36 degrees for some reason. I guess I have to replace that sensor.

 

It Is probably your ambient air temp sensor. Same thing happened to mine shortly after I bought the car. There is a small hole in the lower grill section on the drivers side that the sensor snap-fits in. The little catch on the sensor may not have enough tension to hold it in the opening. Recommend putting a bead of silicone adhesive round the base of the sensor and just plug it back in the grill. It will work fine. You'll have to remove the under-engine skirt to get at it, though, if you haven't already...

 

You can get to it through the fog lamp panel on the driver's side...

Have you ever used " Water Wetter", not sure if that is how it is spelled. It improves the surface contact in the engine and rad to help get rid of heat. Used it before and seemed to work very well. Dropped the temp about 10-15 Degrees F. Forsale at most auto parts stores.

 

Does anyone have any images of the outside ambient air temperature sensor.

The cowboy body shop I used to do some repairs ripped it off ",along with ripping me off", disposed of, tried to hide it, didn't tell me, and now I have to find the right one to replace it with.

An image would be brilliant.

Lets hope that's all they 'buggered'.....

Did they at least 'admit' they screwed the pooch?

Most important is the part number as many parts look the same, get the Mercedes part number NOT the Chrysler one, as the Mercedes one will be identical but cheaper.

 

Excellent tool man, I'll obviously need to get one, no, they didn't tell me, one of lots of things I've found.

Dreadful experience.
