$31,650 price OK ? Still Undecided...
Hi...
Buy 2004 Crossfire automatic w/ all-season tires...
Price... $31,650 ...includes delivery & $170 tires...
sales tax... registration... title... extra...
Think dealer's "documentation fee" is an additional $299... but sales guy says can come down ~$200 on the price...
Good deal or not ?
I've test drove the following new cars and the Crossfire is usually #1 on my list... with the Infinity G35 coupe 2nd... sometimes 1st...
I did enough research on those of real interest to me... that eliminated some... such as the RX8...
Infiniti G35 coupe (might wait to see '05 interior - but '04 XF likly gone)
Mazda RX8
Mazda 6 (tried for someone else)
BMW 325 coupe
BMW 330 coupe
Acura TSX
Acura TL
Mustang Cobra (no test drive - clutch toooo tough!)
Chevy Corvette (used)
Chevy Malibu (tried for someone else)
Chrysler 300c hemi
Looked at Nissan 350Z (nope...)
...couple years ago...
Honda S2000
Toyota MR2 spyder
BMW Z3
Volkswagon Passat
Volkswagon Jetta
Uncertain about selling my 2001 Mazda Miata 6-speed with only 13,500 miles to get the Crossfire... worth ~$16,000...
I like the Miata's nimble handling... and top-down at times...
Only 10 payments left on the Miata... more debt ! ugggghhh...
Concerned about good dealer tech-service on the scarce X-Fire...
Concerned about mechanical and body parts availability too...
The X-fire has the combination of looks... performance... luxury... that get me kinda' excited... wish it had a sunroof though...
I know I'd really enjoy the upcomming SRT6's performance... but it's real pricy ! At ~$45,000 I'd likely get an '05 Corvette instead... and I don't wanna spend that much $$$ on a car...
I dunno... decision is part emotional... part intellectual ...
Thanks...

BMW 325 coupe - F' BMW...
BMW 330 coupe - F' BMW...
BMW 330 coupe - F' BMW...
i loved my M3...but there are just too many in my area.
Sidenote...
My girlfried has an excellent eye for sharp lookin' vehicles... they are usually very very expensive ones... out of my league...
A few months ago... she & I saw our 1st Crossfire... the front end stopped at a light...
She said with excitement... "What's that !!?... ...that's a sharp lookin' car !"
I had no idea then... but figured it's another one out of my price range...
I was intrigued by it's looks too...
1st test drove a Crossfire about 6 weeks ago... the interior... ergonomics... ride... handling... performance... felt really really good... the more we looked at it... (exterior).. the more we liked it...
Of all the vehicles we tried out... the Crossfire and the Infinity G35 coupe are the only 2 she would try out... she said no to all the others...
So far I've had the Crossfires out 4 times... other cars once...
That tells ME somethin'...

Tough choice, I would only consider a 3 series BMW, loved my '93 325is, over a Crossfire. Best would be - keep the Miata until it's paid for and the Crossfire market becomes established - buy a used low miles 2004 Crossfire with a build number higher than 10,000 - sell the Miata privately and smile while walking out of the bank. First year depreciation is a killer.
I once considered the G35 to the Crossfire. Now I see G35's at the lights next to my Crossfire. The body lines on the G35 are soooooooo boring.
Go ahead, line up the Crossfire yourself to a G35. Look at the side profile, front, and rear. Only thing I like on the G35 now is the LED tail lights and the interior pop up nav.
BTW nav is an available option on the 05 crossfires now! Saw it on the website.

dave,
does the crossfire you are looking at include any rebates? through last month there was a $2500 rebate on crossfires. the recent increases in crossfire sales were attributable largely to the rebate. when i bought in february, the prices i was able to find or negotiate including the rebate and freight, minus tax, tags, title ranged from $29K-$31K for an autostick. a dealer local to me with 29 crossfires in stock currently lists autosticks on their website for $30.7K (none have the all season tire option).

Hi...
Thanks for your comments...
"...pay off Miata... buy used '04..."
Excellent suggestion... good economical choice ! ...but... don't want preowned...
"...G35 looks... boring..."
Yeah... thought about this several times too... and I know I'd get tired of it's looks within 2-3 years and don't wanna buy or lease again that soon... I expect I'll still like the Crossfire long past that...
"...$2,500 rebate..."
The dealer gets the rebate for the $31,650 selling price... add 'em and it's $34,150... Edmunds shows $33,192 invoice on the car... so dealer's makin' at least $1,000 at $31,650...
I'm gonna call the service managers at 3 local Chrysler dealers and ask about technician training... expertise.. parts... re. the Crossfire...

Navagation just wasn't worth the extra $$$ to me.
That unit looks sweet though. I think it is the same unit my friend has.
You might want to check out the BMW 4-Series. They're pretty nice.
I hate rotary engines, they're no good. Forget the RX8.
I'd say that you've got a hard decision between the Crossfire and the G35 coupe. That really depends on what you're looking for, though. The Crossfire is a unique headturner. The G35 coupe has much more people and luggage room. The Crossfire is a fun little car to hop around in. The G35 is faster and revs higher, more of a thrill to drive. The Crossfire is more of a treat to drive, though. The Crossfire has a nicer interior. The G35 is just Nissan plastic everywhere. But it's bigger inside and has more features. Crossfire has a better stock sound system. G35 is more moddable.
Do you want European or Asian, that's what it comes down to. German refinement, Asian fun. That's the choice.

That's a good price, but you can go crazy trying to squeeze out the last nickel.
Some dealers in Baltimore as of last Sunday are still advertising new '04 Manuals for just under $28K (possibly delivery extra) and others just over.
Most now in this area are really pushing leasing in their ads, though.

Just a minor point, Boba...I don't mind you trashing Vettes, BMW's and the like, but why did you have to bash Harleys?
Harley Davidsons eptiomize the very essence of the Crossfire! Style, grace, attitude, and image are the hallmarks of both. I bought a Harley not because it's the fastest (it's not) or the cheapest (it's not) and not the best handling (it's not) but it is a Harley, and the other bikes are not...no matter how much they try to look and sound like them.
I bought the Crossfire for the same reasons. If rich doctors (I'm not) start buying Crossfires will you abandon your XF for the same reason?
All in fun...have a great day!
Harleys are a true American icon and a great success story...besides, when's the last time you saw somebody with "Honda" tattooed on their arm? 8)

i might agree with some of that: the crossfire retro thing is not inconsistant with the harley retro-thing. i can see them in the same frame....maybe with bogie and bacall. and a stuka. gotta have that stuka.
i especially like the fact that the crossfire inside is as technically current as the outside is retro.

Hi...
Spoke w/ 2 service managers re. technical support for the Crossfire... I now feel reassured any issues can be handled... Chrysler has specialized technical support staff to back up the dealers too...
Visited another dealer last evening & took an autostick Crossfire for a spin again...
It rides and handles better than I remembered... engine & drivetrain is nice 'n smooth... enough power...
Whooo Hooo ! :P
My girlfriend gives the car a 10 out of 10... 9/10 for me... sapphire silver blue... dark slate grey interior... it arrived this week and is sittin in the showroom...
Chrysler's incentive on the 04's changed this week... sales mgr. showed me... $1,500 rebate on 1/2 of dealers stock (was $2,500 before)... plus $1,000 rebate if financed thru Chrysler at .0564%... can pay off at any time... so... it's still $2,500 but it's split now...
I negotiated and got the car's price w/ destination to $31,500 +$150 dealer fee = $31,650... a little less than the other 2 less desirable dealers...
MSRP w/ delivery on equivalent '05 is $35,880 +$150 dealer fee = $36,030... no Chrysler incentives... I didn't get into bottom-line pricing on an '05 since a $2,500 spread is enough of a difference for me...
I left this dealer to last since it's the one I'd really wanna buy from...closer... very good reputation...
I have a few more questions for the dealer before I decide...
