Default Slice N' Dice

Well I woke up this morning to a lovely surprise as you can see from the pictures.

this shot is verticle(door seam and rear quarter panel gap)

Tear through the door itself

One of my fellow tenants claims "she backed up into the car because it was in her blindspot." I guess thats what I get for always parking the car in the same spot for months on end away from everyone else's vehicles.

The insurance quote came in a bit above 5 grand, which is actually less than I expected. Myself and the other owner are scheduled to sit down later this evening and exchange info. From the looks of her beat to hell early 90's Taurus I'm assuming she is not insured, but we will just have to wait and see. In the mean time I have just turned the claim over to my carrier so that I can get the repairs going, and they can then go after her carrier if she is insured to reimburse my deductible and cover rest of the repairs.

The worst part of all is that I was scheduled to get my new Boston Pro60se component speaker's and amp installed the 30th of this month as well getting the car dynamated. Unfortunately I had to call the shop today to post-pone that install. No sense in getting high-end speaker's installed into a door that is soon to scraped, and of course the money I had set aside for that install is now going towards my deductible.

Sorry to hear about this, ....surely she has insurance.

In Ks. you have to have insurance to renew your plates......you'd probably go to jail if you drive without it.

Sorry about your bad news. You're probably right; no insurance.

There is a door on ebay for $400 that is black if they cant repair your door. But, What I see repaired at the bodyshop next to my office what you have is nothing. Also remember the data sticker on the door . I dont think you can replace that.

That sucks

Bring it down to Miami and the Cuban guy next door will fix it for a grand no problemo.

Make sure they include the scrapes on the rear wheel in the repair estimate.

The door sticker can be removed and put on the new door after painting. I knew an auto thief in LA years ago that did VIN switches on stolen cars. He could remove any sticker from the stolen and replace with the stickers from the donor car. He was undoubtedly the best in the country in the 1970s.....

One more thing!
Make sure that her insurance or the girl will pay for the lost value.
Let`s say you want to sell your XF in September 2011, your carfax won`t come clean.
Think about this, this accident can be fixed but you have to think about what`s next!

Getting your car repaired is good. Getting money for the loss value is another smart thing to do!

Your insurance can advise you. You might have to sue her.... Sorry, it sounds ugly but a fact is a fact.

Max

Really sorry to see that, I'd be sick if it happened to my car.
With SSB, I would have the entire left side of the car painted to insure a uniform color match.
Good Luck.

~ been there done that... the decal can not be removed and replaced - not like the old days.

i had a new door skin put on my original door and this retains the main door and decal... i would recommend this route. the end result was seamless...
(no pun intended).

Wow, that REALLY sucks! I would be livid if I came out to my car and saw that, so I can empathize. Actually, I did come out and see similar damage to a car I owned years ago. It was a piddley VW Fox, but it was the first decent car I ever owned--it was reliable, clean, and the paint was in good shape. And then when I'm walking to my car after class, I see the door smashed in. And of course, in my situation there was no evidence of who left the damage.

So at least you know who did it. Good luck fixing everything!

Also get the insurance adjuster to pay for a wheel alignment, you probably wont need it but it will help to wards your deductible if you don't need the alignment

Thanks for the offer, but the adjuster just came by, and then I took it to the shop where I want it done, and they are just going to replace to outer shell of the door. The inner components (ie. Window and motors) as well as the interior panels will remain as are.
