Default Buzz-Squeak-Rattles Repair

So far I've had my Crossfire in twice to have a creaking/squeaking sound fixed. The small trim panels into which the seatbelts retract just behind the doors are the source the noise. The first time I didn't even go a mile before it came back. The second time they had my car for two days. I made it home with hardly a squeak last night. Today on my way to work the creaking is back just as bad as before. I think a couple others here have had a similar problem. I am curious as to whether I am the owner of an anomaly or only one of many. Anyone else have a creaking noise? (You might have to turn down the radio to pinpoint it.) Should I take it back in, try to ignore it, or attempt to fix it myself?

I have a creaking noise that comes from the driver's side door, sometimes there's noise from where the seatbelt goes in along the door but mostly it seems to be coming from the armrest and side of the door where the airbag is. It's annoying and when I take my car in, I will have them look at it. I also get a strange, very subtle rattling noise coming from either the engine or the center a/c vents, even if the a/c is off I believe. Then, of course there is the famous popping noise, but that doesn't bother me.

Might want to start looking into your state's lemon laws.

Actually... just turn the radio up louder.

I was laughing when I read that, and realized that I have no idea if my Crossfire makes any annoying noises. It could be pounding like a jackhammer from right behind the driver's seat, and I'd have no idea.

even if i don't get it resolved i'm not sure a squeak qualifies for a lemon.

knowing that i have this noise makes me do the opposite - turn the radio down and try to see under what conditions it occurs most because i'm probably going to have to fix it myself.

I noticed this problem on my crossfire about a week ago. I have 1,000 miles on the car. It's a rattling noise either in the door or where the seatbelt retracts on the drivers side. It was buggin the hell out of me because the car feels like it's built out of concrete otherwise. The funny thing is the last few days I've driven it there has been no sound even over bumpy roads. Hopefully if enough owners have this same problem they'll have a better idea how to fix it.

I had a strange bumping noise comming from the center console area. For me this turned out to be the passenger seatbelt tapping the console. It took me while to find this one, thought it was comming from inside the console. I put a small peice of adhesive backed foam on the seat belt clip between the console and clip and all is quiet ( at this location ) now.

that is one of the problems in getting it fixed. it comes and goes. i initially thought it was inside the door. but i was eventually able to isolate it to the trim panel just behind the door. i'm going away for the weekend but i will make my own attempt at fixing it next week.

I posted before about the kit that DC dealers should have to help repair squeaks.. very effective repairs are possible using it. The biggest key is talking with the advisor/tech and GOING FOR A RIDE with them. We all hear things differently- and what bothers you may not bother me. Also- very common to have a noise complaint, and I hear something entirely different, that drives me nuts, that the custmoer doesnt even hear!

Bottom line: Go for a ride with the person who will be repairing it! Do not settle for a ride with an advisor- unless he/she plans on personally fixing your car! And remember- if it isnt squeking when you bring it in- how will it ever be found? So if it only happens in the heat of the day- don't show up at 7am! Hopefully with a little effort on the techs part, and some patience and some test driving-- you will both hear/diagnose/repair the annoying noise!

PS- No- a squeak or rattle does not qualify for lemon law.. It must affect the driveability of the vehicle, impair safety, or cause a reduced value of the vehicle to qualify.

I had a minor squeak coming from the driver's side near the seat belt slot or around the top of the door jam area. I squirted just a little silicone lube into the little cracks and the squeaks went away. Give that a shot.
