Questions about replacing the factory stereo
The factory stereo is decent but I find myself longing for MP3 playback and smoother sound. The treble is a little harsh and the bass is eq'd a little boomy without enough low mids to add punch. Anyway although its the nicest factory system ive had im curious about replacing it and have a few questions....
1. how does the factory stereo come out? Details?
2. What type of kits are needed to install in the crossfire? Crutchfield.com has no kits for Mercedes/Crossfires... whats up with that?
3. Speakers: If I ever want to change the speakers, what is involved in doing that? Details?
Thanks for any INFO

Becker car audio is similar to the one that we have with the Crossfire. It has other models that offers MP3 and WMA where you can load MP3's up to 7 hours of music. But I'm not sure if it is the same size as the Infinity Modulus Model # BE6806
When I had my unit replaced with an Alpine MP3/XM unit the job that did the job stated it was standard European wiring, took them no more than 15 min to remove unit apply proper wiring adapter ( Euro to Alpine ) and replace radio. You may need to make a trip to a auto stereo installer to get the right adapter for a SLK.
Hey when you all figure out how to get the factory radio out, call my Five Star Dealer, Airpark Chrysler in Scottsdale, AZ. It's been four weeks since service manager John Wyers promised to "get in touch with Chrysler and get right back to me" on how to get my radio out to swap it. Apparently Fester the Crossfire Tech didn't have the tools to get the job done.
There are two small slots on either side of your radio.
There are two small 'keys' that fit in and you simply pull the radio out. Pretty slick design. MB has used this for years and any audio shop should have the keys to pull the radio. You could also buy them through your dealer or probably online. They are inexpensive and I have purchased mysself a set, rather than rely on shop tools.
