Default Auto Transmission Fluid replacement intervals

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what the recommended replacement intervals are for the auto transmission fluid? Also what is the recommended type of fluid to use if I am going to do this myself.

Many thanks,

BC

40k is what m/b recommends. either use sprinter fluid from chrysler or the oem m/b fluid. either way it costs a bit. around 20$ per qt

At 50k I plan to drop the pan and change the filter and fluid. After that, I plan just to drain the fluid from the drain plug and refill at about every 20k- kinda freshen it up abit from time to time.

My experience is that it is most important to get that filter changed out one time due to break-in material caught in the filter. After that, keeping the fluid fresh will work just fine.

Anyone have a lead on where to buy the fluid cheaper? On line perhaps?
Part number? (at work can't search)

Automatic Transmission
The fluid in the automatic transmission should be
changed at 80,000 miles (129,000 km), along with the
transmission fluid filter. After that, the transmission fluid
is filled for life.

The correct MOPAR number at the dealer is 05127382AB. I believe $25ish/qt. not sure on price. When I bought a qt at the dealership they gave me the cheap/wrong $8 ATF fluid, when I went back they just exchanged it to the right fluid at no extra charge, so I got a deal there.

Just make sure it says, "CROSSFIRE / SPRINTER" on the bottle.

I would think a Full synthetic ATF would be best for our cars, just like using synthetics in the crankcase. Not sure if the Mopar oil is synthetic or not. You think it would be for how much they charge us for it.

Supposedly the Mopar ATF+4 is nearly the same or compatible with the MB fluid. Did quite a few searches on it and I guess that is why the Chrysler stealerships are putting it in our crossfires. That is what they put in mine. So I guess if it's ok in your car Woody, it's ok in mine too.
An interesting read on MBWorld about this fluid...

Some dealers have it by the gallons. I believe I paid $25 for a gallon when we did mine.
