I need some guidance!!!
I need some guidance!!!
I drive an '06 coupe with less than 28,000 miles on it. Just had it in less than 600 miles ago for oil change & all points maintenance. Warning light came on last night so took it to dealer this a.m. Waited 2 hours & finally asked status. Service writer told me that it was the alternator, that I needed a new one & they were rare. It is going to run $1,267.00 and will take several days. Am I crazy or does this seem a little high?! He proceeded to tell me about the whole Daimler/Chrysler story like I wasn't familiar. He seemed now intent on the new Fiat association. I was a little suspicious when he didn't know that the rental PT Cruiser was on a Neon chassis. I'm just a "dumb woman" looking for another opinion. Thanks for all feedback.

2006 Chrysler Crossfire Alternator - Parts.com
I'm sure someone in Oklahoma can help you get it on. Or take it to an indi shop to verify it's the alternator.

Re: I need some guidance!!!
Find a local shop that rebuilds starters and alts. I have a shop here that rebuilds both and they do all the parts, bearings etc. Auto Zone and the other stores usually replace the broken parts. If a diod is bad the only replace it and put it back in service. I can get a complete rebuild for less that a partial.
