Default The Wing

Humm,I posted this last night, and it disappeared....
If I was going 65 mph, and needed to put the wing down, for a sight problem, would it hurt anything, and would the car react different?

Then, when I restarted my car, would the wing lift at 65 the next time, or would I have to reset the button?

Whew! I hope this makes since

That is weird.. I remember reading it earlier. I went back in my history, clicked on it, and it said it doesn't exist.

Are you sure you didn't delete it yourself? I know I didn't!

.... for your question

The only way you can over ride the spoiler at 57mph + is to pull the fuse. The switch inside will not allow it to lower once it has been deployed automatically due to speed.

Pulling the fuse will limit the down force on the rear of the car and it will loose some stability. Probably not enough for the average driver to notice. Not like the car is going to take off into mid air If it did, I would save money on airline tickets

Yeah, I replied to this yesterday...

Once the spoiler deploys at 65mph, you can not manually lower the spoiler until you go below 65mph, or at ~35 it will lower itself.

If the spoiler is manually lowered or automatically lowered, it will go back up if the magic 65 is hit again.

If the spoiler is manually raised, it will stay that way until manually lowered.

You can only override the automatic mode by pulling the fuse.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the answers...Guess I will leave it alone. Naww I didn't delete it Adam, and Craig I did get a notification that I had an answer, but when I went back, everything was missing,lol... I thought maybe the moderator moved it to a different location for me...(heck what do I know, this is all new to me ) <g>

But thank you both for the help...had read in the forum that you could put the wing up at anytime, so thought you could drop it at anytime..sure glad I didn't try it.

posts related to the spoiler retracting will often self-retract if they aren't viewed at least 40 times per hour.

Small clarification (check it out if you dont agree)

If you manually raise the spoiler- and exceed the normal Auto operation speed - the spoiler will automatically go back down when you decel below the appropriate speed.

Also, if the spoiler automatically deploys, you CAN NOT lower it if your speed is above 65 mph. I tried several times during this past weekend's run, no go.

However, if it deployed automatically, and you are below 65 but still above the automatic lowering speed (~39), you CAN lower it with a single tap on the bottom half of the spoiler switch.

I don't agree, start your car, fully raise the spoiler with the switch, drive until you pass 65mph, then stop your car, the spoiler will stay up.

This is how my car has worked since I bought it and how I saw 12 other cars perform during the Left Coast Hookup.

Mine works like yours too, cgates. If I put it up with the switch it stays up until I put it down with the switch and then it's back in automatic mode.

If it were to go back down automatically we'd have quite the problem. Picture if you will, us northern folks, driving the car through a snowy/icy blizzard and having the spoiler automatically retract into a frozen-over deck lid.

Other than for maintenance, this is the primary reason for a manual override.

If I remember correctly however, if you partially deploy your spoiler manually (not all of the way up), then hit 65 and let it automatically fully deploy, upon slowing below 35, it will retract completely automatically.

interesting... Wonder if there is a programming difference in the newer/older vins. This issue was specifically brought up in training and demonstrated in class. May be possible that the demonstration cars in class had different programming for wing (they are pre-production vehicles).

Although having witnessed the spoiler retract after manual deployment on the training vehicle- I will retract my earlier statement- as a production change apparently has occured

I guess there are different modes for the Spoiler.
1. Automatic Up and down as described before.
2. Manual up while moving above 35 and less than 65...and it will go back down automatically. I think it matters how long you hold the up button in this mode.
3. Manual Up at less than 35 and it will remain up...until lowered manually and confirmed by the beep.
At least that is the way I remember the speeds and functions....;-)

8) The only time we manually deployed the spoiler was on our "Left Coast Hook-Up" and it just stayed up. Never tried the other modes.

 Sure was cool when we did our "synchronized wings".

1-2-3 UP ,,,, now down ..... Can hardly wait for the "Sin City Hook-Up".

 I reckon the reason for the manual override is that the Police cannot prove you are doing in excess of 65mph. If you get pulled over, you can always say that you deployed the spolier manually.

you can also stop the spoiler in different positions by hitting the button in the opposite direction when the spoiler is in the desired position. (did that make sense?) Say you're raising the spoiler, when it gets to the desired position, hit the button on the bottom and the spoiler will stop. I like to drive around town about half way up, if anything to look cool.

You also have to hold the button in the down position a second after it hits the fully down position, until you hear the beep. otherwise, the spoiler won't be in he automatic mode.
