Thats the way it started anyway. Now the battery light is on all the time. I am also hearing a "rattling" noise coming from the front of the engine. The battery problem started a couple of weeks after the rattling sound. It sounds like a loose component or something. Sounds like the alternator but I'm not sure.

Sounds like a altenator bearing has gone bad. Have you opened the hood yet? Mite be worth a look.

 

Yeah opened the hood but no idea what to do. I know I hear a rattling sound. Now the battery light never goes off. . And more than likely the car will die while I'm driving it. Where is the best place to buy a Crossfire alternator?

 

There are two alternators available....Valeo and Bosch....it is a pretty easy DIY... just google Crossfire Alternator and you will get a host of option.... remember that we have an 8 grove belt... when I just looked I saw some saying 6 groove pulley...

 

If your a little handy, pull off the Serpintine Belt in the front of the car.

With the belt off, spin the Alternator by hand, it should be nice and smooth, no roughness or noise.

Or I would first put a Voltmeter across the Battery leads, with the engine running, you should see positive voltage, something above 12.5v, if the Alternator is working, (Or take it to AutoZone or Advanced, they will check it for Free).

And free is good...

a better check for voltage, first measure across Battery, with engine off and record. Then when running for something above your first reading at rest...

 

You can check the alternator output at the battery with the car running... it should read 14.0v - 14.5v.

Kodebuster is correct about checking the bearing also...

 

Got it fixed, it was a bad alternator. Rattle went away, entire job took a little over an our complete. Cost with labor $356. Worth every penny and car like new again. Thanks
