Default Rear window problem - check yours

Okay look at the two edges of the rear window at the corners that meet the spoiler. Mine are getting clear in these corners. My dealer tried to order a new rear window but they are out of stock (but seem to have plently to make new cars).

They looked at the ones on their lot and it seem that the longer they have been there the worse it gets. The one that was fine that they initally compared mine too is not getting clear too...

anyone else have this problem?

Can you post a picture of what you're talking about? I'm not getting it from the description.

I will take a couple of shots tonight so you can see it.

In the mean time - basically the bottom edges of the glass are turning clear instead of staying black. It almost looks like a buffing pad got under the window and removed the film.

absolutely. iregular roundish areas at both bottom corners and somewhat on the edges too.

looking at the edge underside, it looks like whatever they used, paint plastic or whatever, does not make it to the edges and that's starting to show.

let's start bombarding the dealerships till dc gets a tsb out for replacment.

I think the finish is on the bottom of the window rather than in the middle. It looks more like it is wearingout over time - maybe from rain?

How many miles on the car? Daily Driver? What geographic region are you in? How often do you wash the car? In a car wash?

I am in Texas. I had this problem when I took delviery of the car. I was made in oct of last year. It currently has almost 2000 miles on it. All the cars on the lot seem to have various degress of this problem occuring. I wash the car once a week, the dealer probably rinses them that often. I only wash mine with a sheepskin pad and use the air dry system, then I wipe it with some Zaino gloss enhancer.

Here are the pics you requested....

Here a picture of the defect- you are looking at the bottom left of the glass (the right side looks like this too):

My dealer has a person coming in on the 28th to investigate it and will tell me how they plan to handle the situatioin at that point.

Drunkiq,

I just checked and found the same thing. The car has never been outside the garage at night, 8k miles on it, washed maybe once every 2 weeks with car soap and water. I found both corners to have maybe 1/8th inch seperation and the bottom acrossed the entire window has a small edge of white on it. Looks like maybe we have something going on here.

it will be helpful if anyone who has this problem includes their approximate build # in the response so we can see if there are any patterns like, for instance, so far, we have only low (1xxx,2xxx) build numbers reporting. if that were to remain the case then we might figure that mercedes has recognized the problem and fixed it at the factory. i think i would take that as good news.

It took shining a flashlight in the corners, but I do see it. #12913, built 11/03.

Garage kept, washed weekly (at least), ~5800 miles, but it does sit outside in the elements while parked at work 5 days a week.

Whatever it is, it's not on the outer surface of the glass, so I doubt washing has anything to do with it. I tried to 'feel' up under the lip of the glass, and looked under with a flashlight, nothing immediately obvious.

if you deploy your spoiler then you can get a pinky up there (maybe).

Yep, now I see what you're talking about. Mine has about 1/8" across the bottom of the glass and a 1/2" high by 1" wide place on either end of the glass.

So far, so good for me, too...don't seem to have the problem yet. It's in the garage every night, and in the sun (work parking lot) every day. 20K miles, but I've only washed it (hand wash) maybe a dozen times since last September (that's not as bad as it sounds...it's been in the shop almost 10 weeks as well so didn't have to wash it then!).

I noticed it on my XFIREX...a dime size clearing in the right lower edge of my tailgate glass. At first, I thought it was a water spot and I tried to remove it several times with no avail. I never thought it's part of the warranty for my CF but I'm glad there's a few of us here with the same problem which can warrant my claim

XFIREX 5000k miles,, is garage kept, a weekend recreational car and never been rained. Maintained by Zaino and blower dried. Uses Invisible Glass for cleaning the windows.

I believed DC needs to take notice on this problem...probably another TSB?

I have the defect also.

Could it be airflow getting under the glass with the spoiler deployed?
