Nothing yet on mine. I bought it last July and only have a bit over 5k miles. It spent the winter in the garage and I drove the Jeep GC. Hand washed weekly when it's being driven. Garaged at night and open to the elements while at work.

I just spoke to someone where I work that replaced windows for a living at one point. He said the missing black stuff is a ceramic coating on the bottom. To fix it you would have to remove the window, shoot the effected area and bake it on with a special light. Sound like a quality issue with the ceramic is flaking off...

Hi...

Got the glass/black missing too... ~dime size as others say...

So many have this... may be a "defect" not having it !

I am thinking that perhaps it is water coming under while driving due to the backflow, draft, vacuum created as the car moves along. If it is not cleaned off, it dries and builds up so that it is now visible. Analogy would be the rain and road dirt your wiper does not clean off on the periphery of your windshield.

Not on the XF of course.

OK guys, report from the UK. Weather 70% rain. My car is outside over night, washed 2-3 times per week once by a pro detailer. Bought in April 2004 build 23794.

Happy to report all is OK

Interesting -- seems to be all over the spectrum of build numbers.

Not mine, though... Just cracked 3,000 miles and not a trace of it as far as I can tell.

Has anyone heard if a TSBs has come out (or coming out) to address this problem? I first noticed it happening just in the corners but now it extends all across the bottom (side to side). She currently has a little over 4K miles, garaged the majority of the time except while going back and forth to work and gets a weekly Saturday bath.

Thanks!

Both my '04 and '05 have the same problem. Its probably due to the fact that the glass overhangs from the seal trim surround. If you remove the glass you'll notice that the weather seals are not exactly on the edge of the glass they are set in from each edge of the glass about 1/2" leaving that area free to the elements. But yeah my '04 and '05 have the same problem and it's worse on the '05 go figure.

Just checked mine. I have 10,500 klms and no sign of any issues here. I assume that everyone knows not to use a window cleaner on tinted windows that has ammonia in it. It will strip the tint off the window, although I don't think that is the problem here. PS. my Xfire is a later 2004 model.

Dealer checked mine today. They are baffled as well. Service rep said she has it noted and will keep the problem open in case DC puts anything out about it. Then we can chase it from there. She said to also bombard DC with e-mail to push issue. Next stop DC website.

actually noticed it last week and thought it was just a little bit of dirt that i needed to get a finger up there and wipe off. will check again in the morning if the rain holds off. if its not dirt then i may try the perm marker trick on a small section to see what that does, after I see my dealer of course.
