i installed the new ignition switch and the same problem happened. As soon as i disconnected the parking interlock cable the key came right out. What i need to know is where does that cable go and what does it attach to and do i need this? car runs , starts, and drives ok and no lights on the dash.

The purpose is to prevent you from removing the key and getting out of the car WITHOUT it being in PARK.
If you ALWAYS set the emergency brake, then you could do without it, but there is always that one time you will be in a hurry, park on a hill and forget.
However, there is always a ready market here for used parts from totaled cars, so go ahead

The cable goes to the transmission selector assembly.

I thought this pin was removed entirely in the mod so as never to be a problem again.
That's what I'll do. The steering wheel will not lock up though if you do the mod 100%, I will read it again to be sure of my facts though.

OK, I'm not sure why you purchased the new ignition switch. This is not altered by the Sticky Key fix. The cable attached to the ignition switch goes to the gear selector assembly, this cable is attached to it and is rotated 90 degrees to release it. I would look at that end and see if all is well. The instructions to remove the housing is in the Repair Manual, in the Steering section #19 page 19. in the 2004 Repair Manual.

The pin removal will delete the steering wheel locking feature only. When you cant remove the key, a shifter/lock cyl. cable adjustment is required. Not sure but I think it's done @ the gear selector end.

I don't blame you, and I apologize for being somewhat flippant. Truth is, I didn't read the entire question, just the part about "do I need it" stuck in my head. I realize the frustration you must be facing, and am sorry I was of no help.

BTW, you can find instructions on replacing the shift interlock cable in the Service manual in section 19-19 :

The cable part number is 05096646AA, but I had absolutely NO luck googling it.
