Urgent Advise please? 2004 crossfire
Hello, and thanks in advance for replies.. I guess i am close to pulling trigger for wife..
seen a 2004 crossfire red. 57,000 miles.
seems in good shape from a dealer (not chrysler). small blemish/ crack on door handle/ a few back trim screws and paint off shift **** but OK..
Red, manual.
My main concerns are any thing to look out for on high cost repairs? I can do most of my own work except big stuff.. I actually dont mind the manual as an automatic seems expensive if it goes.. hopefully the clutch isnt that much? I drove it and clutch seemed OK no slip from wha ti can tell. gears were all good.. seemed a little harder from first to second (is this normal?)
anyway they are asking 11k with 57,000 miles in red. seem OK? what should I check further?
thanks!! and in a hurry!
hopefully i will be in this forum with my ride!

Body parts availablity can be a problem, but you have 100's of forum members right here to help you locate what you may need in the future.
Check for rust under the door seal, (use it as a bargining tool) it's an easy diy fix.
All I can tell you is I wouldn't sell mine for a $11k.
Red is a great color for the XF....Good Luck.
thanks for the advice!
i did look under door as I seen browsing forum.. seemed good!
cant seem to find any paint lines from repaint etc..
thanks for the 1-2 shift ease..
i really dont know how to check the clutch but it seemed OK.. took traction off and was able to slightly get the rear sideways on a turn..
headlights look ok and i am hoping to flitz them up if i get it.. will see later tonight hopefully!

2004 Chrysler Crossfire Base 3.2L V6 6-speed Manual Reliability
A periodic problem on this vehicle is failure of the Steering Dampener.
The cost to repair the Steering Dampener is estimated at $925.00 for parts ????

Well it does take 30 minutes to install.
That's why the informed come here before going to the dealer.

I did see the car fax.. It had 5 owners and collision on left front and towed..at 31000 and a week later 4 wheel alignment...hmmm i went tereagain tonight witha good flashlight and coud not tell where if it was repairedand i was body guy..
Car fax not that detailed but was atauction also beforevthis dealer. Says deduct 400 from car fax so if outstanding 10700and clean 9777. I asked how low and they stuck 10900... No way..in fall? I lookedat 2 more but one had 60k but allwheels were scrapped and paintscratched pretty good.. The othe tey wanted 12900 but had 42k and not that great looking..
I noted smallish area on the one i am considering were it looks like te tire rubbed some paint off towards the front in the wheelwell. If hit left side may indicate a harder hit but the right also had it even a little more..is this normal?
I wonder if the ar bags went oraway to tell.
As these cars age, there will be a longer owner trail. No way around it. They often go to auction after trade-in since most dealers don't know what to do with them. If the car looks clean (engine compartment, etc), you cannot find any repaired damage, the rims are clean, and all accessories work, then $10-11k is a good price. I'm willing to pay a little more for condition and color. Give it a good test drive and maybe use an OBD-II reader to check for codes.
I bought my roadster (37k miles) new and have had zero problems other than the fan recall and a couple door handle screws loosening up and falling out. The SRT6 only had the intercooler issue (bought with 8500; now at 18k). Yes, the 1-2 shift sucks on such an otherwise fine car, but you just have to hit it just right and it shifts fine.
Maintenance is minimal, other than changing 8.5 quarts of synthetic oil annually. Plug (12) are good to 100k. Coilpacks seem reliable. Preventive maintenance could include radiator flush, tranny flush, brake fluid flush, cabin filter. Some steering dampers go - mine are fine. Suggest checking rotors for wear as you may want to replace pads with low-dust.
And BOOO to all you guys advising a lowball offer. Hypocrites. You are also the guys lamenting that our cars don't hold value.

Also do a search on 'Leaky Valve Covers", this is a fairly common issue, and usually not a show stopper.
If it's got warranty, it should also be covered.
A sure sign of a leaking cover, is to pull the oil splash pan, and look for signs of old dried up oil, caked to the pan.
If you look at the Valve Covers, both sides, and see some wettness along the edges, that's another sign.
Again not a show stopper, but if you notice, it should enhance your Buy Price, and eventually should be fixed...
