Default Water in petrol/gas cap housing?

Just wondering if rain getting into the housing unit that holds the petrol/gas cap is a common fault & is it problematic or just one of those things?

If the water is "pooling" in there, then I would think the overflow tube is clogged up.
The gas door itself offers no water intrusion protection.

Yeah there was a pool of water in there when I filled up earlier, may sound stupid here but where is the overflow tube and how do I clear it
I'm learning day by day

Look at the bottom it's on the left hand side of the cap.
If its blocked and why should that be I have to wonder, stick a piece of wire down the tube. the tube exits at the rear of the wheel under the fender, it should be visible.

Would be strange if it were blocked I would agree, any harm possible from water pooling in the housing?

It never gets up to anyway near the cap opening & that is always sealed tight so hopefully no water will be getting near the fuel, there is no rust showing as the water gathers within the plastic housing.
Going to have a look at overflow tomorrow.

Avoid sticking a wire in there. If anything, use comperssed air from the bottom of the tube behind the rear wheel and blow the object up, because the place it would get clogged is about 2" down from the top of the tube. I replaced that hose on my car this year because it was broken and allowing water to go inside where it is not suppose to be. I have pics of that whole area from the inside somewhere on here. EDIT: Found them!!!

My I suggest pouring some water there in the fueling area and see what happens to it. Not a ton of water just about a .5 cup or so. That way you will have some idea of how fast or slow it drains.

I have an air compresser with a tube connection that powers one of our machines at work so I can use that to blow air into the overflow to see if it unblocks it, will then test to see how it drains afterwards.

I'm not sure, but I think I read that somebody said certain "spider" species like to build nests in the drain.

Mother Nature loves our cars.
Mice used my muffler as a Provisional Warehouse, and upon changing my original factory air filters this Spring, I discovered they had a taste for air filter elements.

Every time I wash either XF there is a small pool of water in there. I just wipe it dry, as well as the door frames and inside the hood.

Mine was clogged when I first got it. It put a very long pipe cleaner through it and a small almost pill like looking object was forced out the bottom. Not sure what it was or how it got in there but once it was removed, it drains fine and I haven't had an issue since.

My car has a mouse nest under the Module housing under the hood and the engine cover/filter housing which was not installed due to the NW CAI being fitted had a lot of seeds stored in it.
I picked the car up in the States, so I am guilty of importing plant material without a permit. I assume the mouse has long since baled, no smells anyway.

Blew air from the pipe located at the bottom of the fender upwards & a load of thick black mud blew out and now drains fine

Thanks for all the help folks

Rob.
