Common Courtesy
First of all, I just want to say that I am no prude. I am 51 years old, and have my share of experiences, good and bad.
However, the language that is now being regularly used on this forum has started to bother me. And now add to that the vulgar little pictures being used to degrade other forum members, and I just had to say something.
All I want to say is - all things in their place.
But this is not the place for that type of behavior. Save it for the bowling alley, or the bar, or the garage when a bunch of guys are customizing their cars......
If you disagree with the opinion of another, say so, and say why. But does it always have to degrade into name calling? And I really don't care what happens on other forums, this is our Crossfire forum, and I would like it to be the BEST one on the internet.
I know that there are many people that lurk on this forum, afraid to say anything, for fear of being slammed. That is no way to have a free expression of ideas passed around. I have received several PM's saying that exactly.
And there is a very large difference between humor and vulgarity!
Lets just have some common courtesy towards each other.
Is that really too much to ask?
I hope not.

Some people would say buying a 2 seat car and enjoying the speed, the attention it gets, sex appeal,etc.etc.,as a vulgar use of resources, and I don't think there's anyone on this forum that has used offending vulgar, words,or abrevations that you do not see any where else in real life day to day media! That's all i meant!
LOL... well I know this post was created probably aimed at me! So im sorry jsisabella, I respect you as one of the most veteran members on this forum and I really do enjoy your comments and posts! I will try to watch my language from now on... but its just how I talk in common speech on this forum... if you want me to speak as my politician background then I will ... but I enjoy just being able to speak freely with friends and Xfire supporters...
The pictures though... I'm sorry... I think they are funny.. lol ... It just helps get my point across... but if the mods tell me to stop then I will cuz this community means a lot to me and others....

i've made pretty much the same observation/request here and been told, i really don't remember by who, that it's just the nature of the internet to behave badly. well, that's just not true. each board has it's own community personality and it's not really a matter of the moderator creating or enforcing rules. it's about the members showing and expecting respect.

This was truly not aimed at anyone in particular, just a general observation. I realize that we are from different areas, and different generations.
But for what it is worth, here is some advice that was given to me by my dad, who was one of the hardest men I have ever known. It has served me well my entire life.
"Never write anything that would embarass you if your mother read it."
Of all the things he ever taught me about business, life, and the right way to be a man, that one sticks with me the most.
OK, I will get off my soapbox now.....

It was a point well taken by jsisabella. In the short time I have been a member I have found it to really be informative and with good interaction among members generally in sharing opinions and ideas.
There is already too much garbage on the internet. I think this forum is above it.
My $.02

jsisabella's post is indeed relevant, and as he (like me) is one of the "old timers" on this forum should be taken with more than a grain of salt. However I tend to overlook the metaphors and abbreviations and absorb the meaning of the text.
I think most current forum members are the educated kinder thoughtful types  that are willing and eager to express themselves, some quite creatively.
It's not the same world as it was even 25 years ago and the younger generation rotates in circles different from the ones a lot of us more seasoned  veterans remember. Phrases that we would have considered vulger or demeaning then unfortunately are the norm today.

I agree with jsisabella's post about trying to keep the forum a place where common courtesy has a place. I am not easily offended and so the language used on occasion doesn't bother me as much, I may have actually been guilty here or there of over-stepping the PC boundaries. What I can't stand is personal attacks. All our opinions here are just that...opinions. If someone states an incorrect fact, it should be corrected but with tact. I have seen many good examples of this and unfortunately a few bad ones.
As in anyplace one can never make 100% happy, but we can sure try. And a friendly, well worded reminder like the post from JS can help us.

Very well written response Sunny9850. I also am very likely to overlook the language as just colorful personalities, but the personal attacks seem to make it a forbidding environment for the soft spoken or mild mannered. Even though this is a normal occurance in life, I, for one, usually try to avoid situations where attack is likely. Attacking others for their comments just makes everyone else reading want to stay quiet. That doesn't seem like the best environment for an open friendly discussion.
The use of symbols #&@%* in place of the actual language can actually be more entertaining than the words themselves and lets the reader insert their own adjectives.
Just my twenty cents worth(inflation :? )
