Gary, that info was asked for a long time ago from Karmann by several different members. No answer was ever given. Both Karmann, Daimler, and Chrysler just point fingers. But, given production numbers by the engineers in charge, the 80000 was the contract amount. So, I would figure the contract was fulfilled.

This thread goes along with what I've been reading over the years, 76047 was the last vin. made, 100 percent accurate? I have no idea.

Re: number of Crossfires made.
Ok, so we do not know how many, but I thought one of the CICCI memebers were taking down VIN#'s to keep a history of the Crossfires. What is the last number we have in the club? We should be able to get that number. If we post it, then all the non-memebers could say they had the last number but, won't be reconized till they register with CICCI....Really what is the last VIN # we have for our records?

Those things, coupled with the fact that most dealers hate our cars, it's pretty easy to guess that Chrysler terminated the contract early. However, I thought the original amount to be built was 100,000 and Chrysler stopped it around 80,000. This is all just hearsay, though.
Re: number of Crossfires made.
We\ll if that is the case I don't think there are 4000 cars that were never made to make it to 80000...I think they stopped short? Unless someone else can tell us different.
