Wheel Bearing replacement
Autozone has the bearings for around $10 / set ( normal tapered bearings )
The service manual says no special tools required.
( if the hub race is scored, then you will need a new hub also ......
front hubs running around $75 on car-part.com )
NOTE: The XF has a 'clamp' nut, not the normal castle nut with cotter key

on ebay there a wording in there saying A12 A13 and those are SC parts number.
N/a use A12 and A17 according to several other parts web site including Autozone.
i would call them to be sure.

According to the parts manual the seals and bearings are the same for the NA and the SRT......
the difference is in the rotors and calipers...

SleepyDo,

I purchased these bearings (A12 and A13) and the boxes are stamped for Mustang II spindles. So I called them to be sure I got the right bearings, races and seals and they told me "according to Federal Mogul's cross reference guide" they are the same. We'll see. I'm having them installed Thursday or Friday. My front wheel bearings have a blue stripe from over heating. I repacked them but they are dead, dead, dead.

Wheel bearings are not something to play with on this car from experience! I had the drivers side front left bearing go bad out of the blue no warning or noise with in a second it was gone and spun the nut off leaving only my front caliper and rotor to hold the wheel on. The nut holding it all together is not reverse thread on the left side which makes this very likely given bearing failure.
paul,
i just repack the bearing with new grease and bearing seal then it was good to go. its very easy to do with old style taper bearing. you can pickup seals and bearings at advance auto parts store using SLK320 2004 model. advance auto got a good web site to indicate if your local store got the parts in stock.
hope to see you soon.

Great!
Thanks. I got the transmission filter, fluid and gasket changed recently and Bora did it for me. I had a very small minor leak (a drop or so every once in a while) so wanted to go ahead and did it as a preventive measure. Now this bearing issue :-)
Its my daily driver so these kind of things are expected I guess.
Talk to you soon.

Once done, is there anything I should inspect when it's off as berrings and seals are cheap.
Thanks.
