Default Weird light came on today!

Okay so here's my story, yesterday i was out at my sister's place and when i was coming back home like around 10 i took my usual route, (route 7). So the intersection has almost all lights (20 miles of it) and since it was dark and no cars were on the road, i usually like to floor it and go faster then usual. But for some reason, my luck, almost every light kept turning red for me. So i kept applying my brakes harder then usual ( I hate lights). So the moral of the story is when it was clear i floored it again and it seemed liked the brake indicator light came on, well not all the way on, but it flashed, and went away! Does it mean i have to change my brakes? or does it apply if the light is complety on and doesn't go away? The brakes seem good to me, i have allot of brake dust ( which i need to take to a car wash, asap) . and Should i be like really concern about it? Thanks again!

Sounds like the traction control light indicating the tires are losing grip.

I wrote that first, then realized you might be serious. At that point I revised my response. I thought you were kidding around originally.

Yes, the traction control should illuminate when you lose traction.

haha i mean, it shouldn't be a big deal. The light stays off when i dont do hard accelerations.

I would have to double check, but I think our cars have a sensor in the master cylinder reservoir for low fluid level. You may want to check that first. Your hard acceleration may be sloshing the fluid away from the sensor.

If you find the fluid level low and with no leaks, you should go ahead and check the condition of the brake pads all the way around the car. As the pads wear, the piston moves out needing more fluid to keep the bore filled. If you refill, only fill to the min line until you get the brakes checked. When you replace the pads and push the pistons back in, the excess fluid will have to be removed from the reservoir.

Make sure you use the correct brake fluid as well! Very important! Dot 4 with min boiling point of 500 Deg F (260 Deg C). Correct on min level until you check/replace brake pads also watch fluid level when replacing brake pads it'll come up a lot as you retract your caliper pistons.

Guys, we do have Pad Wear Indicators on our brakes. Could it be that?

Mine Was intermittent and I checked-worn front pads, 1/8" left.

I went the smart route-Posi-Quiet ceramic pads. Great stopping an...no dust!

Would the pad wear sensors turn the indicator on/off intermittantly?

They did on mine. Just a couple of flashes-I had to look up which lamp it was.

With the light coming on under hard acceleration, I tend to think more that is a fluid level issue. If it were intermittent during braking, then I would tend to think more of a wear sensor.

Both areas need to be checked out.

I had the same thing happen during autocross season last year. It was the pad wear sensor, although I had new pads on. The bare sensor wire was touching against the caliper. Minor adjustment, and all is well. Good luck.

Yeah i went to check it, and it was low on brake fluid ( just below the "full" line). The brakes seems fine still, i bought the car like 2 months ago, its just the way i drive and brake lol. But what kind of Brake fluid should i go buy? like i wouldn't want to screw something up.

Just below the 'full' line is fine, below the 'low' level may cause problems though.
