Default Seriously thinking of purchase...

Hi folks. I am interested in what you really think of the Crossfire. I have a 1987 Porsche 944 with 170K miles, all my doing. It isn't long for this world much longer and am thinking of getting a Crossfire. The deals that they have on the cars seem unbelievable. The dealerships seem to have a plethora of cars and are offering $6k off the MSRP. The lease is $299 per month. Why are these cars not selling better? I would love a SRT-6, but the price is prohibitive for me. Are you pleased with the Crossfire after you have had the car for a while? What cautions would you offer?

I've had mine for 2.5 weeks now and I love it. Go drive one and see what you think. It has a look that people just can't help but look at you when you drive by. It stands out in the croud.

It won't compare performance-wise with your 944, but the coolness factor is for sure! Drive it, if it's got enough kick for you, go for it!!!

If it's major power you're after go for the SRT6. If it's style and attention and respectable performance go for the limited!

the crossfire performs better in just about every way when compared to an 87 944 or 944S. a 944 turbo can accelerate slightly faster than the stock crossfire. the 87 944 had only 158HP, the 944S was 188, and the turbo 217.

I've had mine for a year now and I'm still in love. It remains an absolute joy to drive and is still getting all the "looks" it did a year ago.

I'm pleased with the performance but did want to get a bit more oomph, so I've gone with the Upsolute chip as well as K&Ns. I will, most likely, go with a new exhaust once I decide on which one.

Good luck shopping

Yep, count me in as another still very much in love 10 months and 20K miles later (one of my longer love affairs! ).

By far, the worst thing about the car is having to give it up for the day while it's in the shop for an oil change. Heck, I now even sit in So. Cal. traffic daily and gave up my carpool lane because I hated to leave my car parked at home half the week when I was the designated rider.

If you believe at all that "you are what you drive," this one says you've got plenty of style...and a bit of vroom vroom, too. 8)

Hi there,

I had mine since 04/15 and love it....:-) All of it :-)
There are a few folks who have had one issue or the other with their car, depending on tranny and such.
Hardly any brand new car ever hits the roads truely perfect.
Some folks are not quite happy with all the interior amenities...."cup holder" comes to mind. So be sure to do a nice and relaxed test drive and check everything.

What you do get with the XFire is:

1. Million $ Looks for $30K
2. Very good handling and brakes
3. Lot's of performance once she's off the line ;-)
4. Membership in this here great community.
5. Chance to go and get together with other Xfire owners and enjoy a great time with never ending smiles ( check the Meets Forum for evidence )
6. Plenty of attention.
here are a few dampers that I can easily live with.

1. A little underpowered when coming off the line. At least in stock trim. (Not much longer)
2. Slightly less than perfect rear view when parking.
3. In tight spots the doors are sometimes a little long ;-) But who would park his baby in a tight spot...right?
4. You'll spend way too much time with the car.
Actually the stock brake pads are very very "dusty" but better replacements are available :-)

I hope this helps a little in making the right choice.
As for color .....Nah...pick your own

You asked why the cars are not selling better...just my 2 cents but I think it's mostly the Chrysler name. At above $30K, you're no longer talking about basic transportation, and most folks who are willing to shell out those kind of dollars for a car can probably afford even more dollars...so they would rather have the Porsche, Mercedes, Lexus, etc. names. Also, at this price class, many reviews rate the Nissan Z as having a bit more power so speed demons are going for those (which do sell well).

From what I've read and seen, the majority of folks ultimately buy the Crossfire for its looks as the deciding factor...where it's so beautiful that they're willing to stretch the budget for it (but typically can't stretch the budget farther for that Porsche). The power and handling that the Crossfire does offer is icing on the cake (and plenty of it). Of course, there are some folks that can afford this car five times over, and I still think that ultimately they love the styling.

As for styling...it does have a unique (some say over-designed) style, and as a two-seater, it's not everyone's taste. Hence, not huge sales.

But that's just fine with me. One of the best things about it is having a unique car...it does get the looks and you can't help but smile.

I want to say thank you to all of you who posted replies regarding your thoughts on the Crossfire. I did take a test drive and was very impressed. It doesn't have quite the sports car handling and balance that my Porsche 944 does, but very few cars do. My 944 has always been woefully underpowered and the Crossfire felt plenty peppy to me. My daily driving is a 13 mile commute. I am 90% toward making my decision to get a Crossfire. I lile the unique looks and the fact that you rarely see one out on the road. I have been looking each day and I have seen only one in ten days! You are all obviously a very passionate group and the fact that this forum exists to this degree is testament to the Crossfire's impact. Now, which color...I like the Sapphire Blue Metallic and the Alabaster White?

The XFire isn't the quickest car out there, but it offers the best compromise with ride comfort and interior that on a long journey make it a lot better than the Nissan 350z. I'm glad I chose the XFire over the 350z and the ugly RX8.

Graphite is my colour which I like. Doesn't stand out too much and also looks a bit more corporate for when I'm using it for work.

I made the choice based mostly on the appearance of the car (interior and exterior) but a large part of it is working in a segment of the automotiive industry. It is very hard to own a vehicle without an American name on it. i.e. Mazda, Mitsubishi, BMW, etc.... If only for the fact that I would have to listen to EVERYONE I work with tell me about being a traitor and how I'm destroying our jobs,. With the Xfire, I get the German engineering with a big Chrysler badge so the uneducated have nothing to say but "Cool car man!" Never knowing it's hidden Mercedes heritage.

My boss is a mopar head. Him and a couple of guys at work gave me a little grief over buying it. The company is Daimler-Chrysler. To properly pronouce it remember that the Chrysler is silent. They where all up in arms about the "merger" that happened and how it was actually a take over that cost a lot of american jobs... I know that Chrysler Stock holders sued Daimler over the deal but am not sure that anything came of it. It was mentioned that this type of car (a SLK320 kit car) is just what they needed to do to push the Mercedes stuff into Chrysler and stop Chryslers from ever being built here again.

After they checked out the car they said it was a good deal but they could have got more if they slapped the Mercedes-Benz logo on it instead.

Ouch!

I don't know if that was a comment, criticism, or attack, but it felt like it hurt.
