Default $2,500 Dollars For Max Care Warranty

Would you pay 2,500 to add an extra 7 years (I think 80K additional miles) for a Max Care Warranty? It is a 200 dollar deductible. 3rd Party warranties are out of the question for me! I don't trust those companies.

I know this question has been asked before.... but this type of decision should be based on the individual vehicle. I drove it every day for the first 4 years and it spent a lot of time at the dealership. Typical problems like sticky ignition, foggy headlights... etc. I worked out the bugs. I now only use it as a spare vehicle and run it every month for the past 3 years. So far nothing has happened (with the exception of my airbag light)!

My point is this... if anything serious breaks it could be a couple grand right there! The warranty pays for itself. So what do you do?

The other question is do I even want a Chrysler dealership touching my car? Would I be better off saving the 2.5K and pay out of pocket for fixing problems... and it would give me the freedom to take it to Mercedes where the mechanics are better and they would take better care of my car?

My 07 stick has almost 80,000 miles on it now & only 2 things have needed work.....

1. A tiny rear axle leak....$400-$500 ?
2. Valve cover gasket leak ...(dealership said TSB said total replacement of covers )...$800-$1200 ?

In my case these things were paid for by the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty.

If you are actually going to drive it close to 80,000 miles over the next 7 years .....that doesn't sound like such a bad deal......something will go wrong with it.....

Just throwing my "dos centavos" in here, but I seem to remember when I bought my Max Care extended from Chrysler, that they would only write it for 7 years, from your cars "inservice date". Which, in my case gave me only 2 and 1/2 years of coverage. Because I don't drive the car much, and it had 18000 miles on it at the time, I took it for 50000 miles (an additional 32000 miles) with a $50 deductible, and paid $1900 for the piece of mind. When this runs out in August of 2013, my only choice will be a 3rd party insurance, because (as explained to me) Chrysler doesn't offer coverage past the 7 yrs from the "inservice date". As far as I know the only longer coverage offered from them is on the 10 yr extension on the roadster top/window. If their coverage options have changed, please inform me, and the rest of the forum.

Nope... Chrysler will sell you a max care warranty after 7 years. It falls under a used plan and they have to inspect your vehicle first to make sure everything works properly. A correction though... The plan is for an extra 5 years... Not 7. And I got a dealership quote for 2k. This is a 200 dollar deductible.

I think the year is 2007 models or higher can buy the lifetime plan. Also note that the guy at Chrysler corporate told me the price goes a lot higher if you have more than 60k miles. I am at 58k. I will probably get the 5 year max care plan with 200 deductible. They want 3k for it but the dealership offered it to me for 2k. Financing is interest free for 12 or 24 months. Some argue with me but I know the cost of fixing one major problem will pay for the warranty. I am sure something will break within the next 5 years!

A quick add-on question on MaxCare warranties. I bought one (7/60K) when I got the car in 2006. I have never had to use it and will be trading the car in the near future. Has anyone ever been able to turn in the unused warranty for cash back?

Just had a guy call wanting to sell me an extended warranty on Fred. I asked him how we could extend a Lifetime Powertrain Warranty? He kinda went into a Tourette Syndrome sorta mode.....I couldn't understand much of what he said after that & shortly thereafter the line went dead......

Kinda one of those " Does Not Compute" sorta moments for him.....cannot divide by zero or something????
