Default Road Trip To Vegas = Broken Windshield

I know that it can happen at anytime, but it still sucks.....lol

Great weekend trip in store for my wife's birthday, cruising along 15 North towards Vegas at 80 mph

Hot, sunny day, with medium traffic

No one was within 50 yards of me and all of a sudden I hear a quick ping, and a 2 inch 5 sided crack just jumps onto the windshield right in front of the rear view mirror

Son Ova B***h......

I waited until I got back on Monday to order a new windshield

Prices varied by over $200 (installed)

I tried 5 different places, 2 of which swore that new windshields were not available for the Crossfire, 1 which wanted $525.00 installed, and the lowest that quoted me $300 installed, but later he recanted his quote saying he read his pricing chart wrong.

$369.00 later, my red beast has a new windshield (different shop from the low baller)

I hope this is the last one I need to change, but as low as the car rides, I have a feeling we are more at risk than the vehicles that ride alot higher

Later

Ray

 Man - that does bite. I'm sure everyone who reads your post will squirm

On another note - I hope you had a Great Time In Las Vegas - maybe you won enough to cover your windshield cost???

Sorry to hear that, SYTECH! I hope Lin had a great birthday, anyway!

If it makes you feel any better, the dealer quoted me $800 installed for a new windshield. I figured I'd let the little ping spider a lot more before I plunk down the money, even at $350.

SYTECH... One of my other vehicles is a Jeep TJ. I've changed six windshields on it since it was new in'99. I think it's just the enviroment here. There are small rocks everywhere. I seem to get them no matter what vehicle I drive. Check into glass replacement with no deductible on your insurance... sure has saved me a bundle.

I agree... my 300m is a patchwork quilt of windshield repairs. Well actually just two, but the one I have now is a replacement of one where I had a biggie right in the line of sight. And that already had a repaired spot. And the car is only four years old. You get the picture. Frankly I'm shocked my Crossfire has yet to meet the same fate. So with that, I will drive home tonight and accept the crack in my Crossfire's windshield.
