Mobile 1 : 5W-30
I was at Costco and needed a case of Mobile 1 for my X Fire and all they had was 5W-30 and so picked up a case. I want to make sure that 5W-30 is the right oil for our X-fires before I get it changed.
I live in Maryland so it does get cold here in the winter but nothing like upstate NY.
Please advice.
Thanks all!
Paul

It might be ok, but it is not MB approved.
See the info here:

If an oil appears on EITHER .3 or .5, you can use it.

The correct weight is 0W40, in Mobil 1 it will say European Formula. This oil is approved.

FWIW, the po had the Chrysler dealer change the oil just before I bought it. The dealer filled it with Penzoil synthetic 5-40. I'm in Los Angeles though.
ps... CostCo will exchange it as long as you didn't open the bottles

Stick with 0w-40. I do believe that 5w-40 is also ok and should be on the list that pizzaguy provided. Sometimes you will find 0w-40 on sale at various auto parts stores for $5.50-$6.50/quart. 8.5 quarts needed with filter change.
I use Mobil 1 5w-40 turbo diesel truck oil. Approved by me. It still has zinc. Cost $20 gallon at meijers. It's made to handle diesel loads. It is overkill for crossfire loads. gary

This situation will probably never happen BUT ?????
My last Oil change was done with Walmart Mobil 1 0W-40 at $4.28 Liter. ??? Anytime I see it there, at a reasonable price I BUY IT, to stock-up.
These OILS are approved for a reason, change the requirements at your OWN risk. My Crossfires HAVE, and WILL ALWAYS get Mobil 1 0W-40.
I ALWAYS do the Oil changes myself, to make sure it is done properly, with the CORRECT OIL.

Obviously some folks are going to ignore the recommendations in order to save a few $$$ or if it is convenient. I guess I don't see what the big deal is about using 0w-40 or any other approved oil on the list. It's available at numerous places. You have a Crossfire. Treat it as such. It is not a generic Chrysler product where you can use everyday 10w-30 oil. Obviously the MB engineers came up with a list of approved oils for a reason. While you are at it, go ahead and use 85/87 octane for your gas to save that $3-$4 per fill up.

Thanks all for such valuable feedback. I will return it and get the Mobil 1- 5W-40 and have the peace of mind.
X-Fire is a picky car and I would rather not take chances feeding her anything that's not on her menu :-)

We forgive you for the rant, but we don't forgive you for selling the Red Roadster.
(I haven't forgiven myself for doing it, not gonna forgive you, either.)

Of course Castrol makes approved oil as well. They just don't pay MB to have them put little stickers under there hoods.
If you want to take my '6 for a spin on Hellbender in October, you are welcome to do so. You will have that extra permagrin.
