Default Shipping car overseas

So the Air Force has chosen to send me from land locked Kansas to this beautiful island call Guam and they say I have to ship my car or sell it. My Crossfire will be on a boat for upto 2 months. I'm not sure if it will be in a crate or not so what should I do to prevent any sort of damage from the salty air?

I'm assuming that if I wax it good before I ship it and wash it when I pick it up I should be good.

Thanks guys!

Years ago I worked for an export company that occasionly shipped cars to Europe out of Baltimore. To my knowledge the cars were never crated, maybe strapped down. Never heard of any arriving damaged. Wash it down after arrival and should be good.

With the arrival of the container ships, that changed. Unless you send it on a Mickey Mouse cargo ship that may or may not arrive it will be in a container with another car. In containers is how the stolen cars get to Africa etc.

Just an observation, but weren't all our cars "shipped" over here? Then just left outside in huge storage lots for months on end?

Actually there probably is something that you could mix up and simply spray onto your cars body to protect the paint a little. I just don't know what that chemical would be.
I know years ago, some car companies shipped their vehicles to the dealers with the bodies covered in something that had to be washed off using special soaps or solvents.
Some body shops will mix up a soapy mixture and spray it on other cars inside the shop when ever they paint another car, to help keep any overspray that's drifting thru the air from sticking to them. (But with the modern down draft paint booths, that's usually not a problem anymore).
I suppose my biggest worry about shipping something would be how many door dings it would incur.
Good Luck, and Thank You for your service to our Country.
