Default First Tune Up

Alright boys and girls..

I have a 2004 Coupe and I'm doing my first tune up. I'm not enthused about paying the $771 that it costs me for parts (even at my dealer cost). Any suggestions on which aftermarket brand is the best to use for the plugs and wires? I also heard iridium plugs were the best...

Also, I'm thinking about putting an aftermarket exhaust on the XF... suggestions on what sounds the best? I've had the car for a while but haven't dumped much money into it. I'd like to make some modifications before spring for some added performance. So any suggestions you have for that as well will help!

Thanks in advance

How about a breakdown of the $770 in parts your dealer is charging? As far as wires, probably not necessary, plugs, NGK iridium are good. The best performance mod is upgrade to SRT6 lol.

$771 for what? A dozen plugs at $10/each, two air filters (K&Ns would cost about $60), gas filter, cabin filter. Even if you are changing out the coolant and brake fluid, they don't cost much other than a couple hours labor.

I agree, Needswings sells the plugs and wires together for $200, and thats top quality. My K&N's were $44.xx/ea. Cabin air filter is $30. Coolant flush, maybe brake fluid.... and having someone do all of it, your looking at maybe $500.

Well why are you giving it a "tune" to begin with? Is she running bad? Poor performance? Or are you just doing some preventive maintenance? Performance auto parts & aftermarket auto accessories for your car, specializing SRT4, Crossfire SRT6, SLK32, C32 AMG, VR-4 Rob will give you a great deal on plug wires, plugs, filters, etc. all you need for your little car.

that's nice of you to take care of the car but just remember: repairs are the perfect time to upgrade!
