Default Alternator or Battery going????

I was driving the Xfire and I've noticed randomly when I'm driving, my interior lights dim or flicker. This doesn't happen all the time but I catch it happening is my point...at the time this happened I am playing my music. I do still have the factory battery installed. Any thoughts whether I should be replacing my alternator or battery first????

Not knowing what year Xfire you have, I would still replace the battery first. Less money, much easier and you definitely need it. Best case is the battery is 5 years old and these cars are picky about their voltages. Have you done any audio upgrades, most importantly, added any amps?

I would test the voltage FIRST. If the charging system if failing, it could have killed the battery and a new battery would mask the failure for the short term.....not a good thing.

I really suggest the plug in charger monitors, $5 on ebay shipped, 18$ from wally world, goes in the lighter and should stay there for monitoring the car while driving. Woody

My car does this occasionally when I'm stopped and I have the radio and heater going. I think it's the voltage regulator protecting itself from overload. Been doing it for years, never caused me any problems.
