gas gauge... missing illumination?
Alright, here is my experience... I replaced the gauge face in mine with the cream-colored face from a SLK320 English version (temp is celsius, but speed is mph). Works perfect, but in the process, I noted that the lamp and lamp holder widget was missing for the red bar illumination on "empty" fuel position. I purposely ran low on fuel after I replaced it (I have 100% red LED lamps installed in all instrument binnacle and all switches), and lo-and-behold, the LED for low fuel lit up.
My guess is that when they decided to change to yellow idiot light for low fuel, they simply factory-eliminated installing bulb and holder in cluster. Put it in, it works. Removing cluster is a pain in the tushie (which also does not get hot on mine, only seatback, where is TSB when you need one!), but if you are in there for other reasons (cluster, not tushie!), you can install lamp from superbrightleds and it works fine... best regards...

Ok, yes I realize this post is from 4 years ago... but...
Was there a fix for the missing illumination on the red area of the fuel gauge? This area lights up fine on my temp gauge, but doesn't light up on the fuel gauge. Is this considered normal for everyone? I recall running my tank nearly empty to see if it'd illuminate but no dice.
I'm just wondering if everyone else decided to take ctsemicon's advice and remove the cluster and install a bulb in there. If so, what are the bulb numbers and such I'd need to find a replacement?
Thanks!

Is it just a missing bulb on these cars? Or is there an assembly that needs to be put in and wired?
This is an older thread, has anyone else since confirmed that this works?
The low fuel light did NOT in fact light up. I was disappointed. I'm sure I could tap the existing low fuel circuit and make the one on the gauge active again, but I have not tried yet.
