Default New Member Saying Hello & Why Did You Choose the X-Fire?

I'm leasing a black coupe with the automatic [commuter special].

I'm still surprised I can fit in this car; it's the smallest vehicle I've ever owned by a wide margin. I've had only big American rides in the past, but I'm enjoying the X-Fire and that's all that matters.

After 2 weeks of ownership, here are my "+" and "-" about the car:

- Not Very Fast for a Modern Sport Coupe, but I knew that going in
+ Interior Layout
+ Stereo (Sinatra and Metallica both sound good to me)
+ Styling
+ Handling
- How the Heck Do I Change the Oil & Filter On This Thing? I don't want some jerky boy wrenching on my car and charging me $80.00 for a simple fluid change.
+ Gas Mileage; I Can Live With 24+ mpg on the Freeway

Last, what was the main reason you chose your X-Fire and what did you also consider as an option?

The Filter is simple and right on top. The oil is difficult but can be easy if you get an oil pump like they use to change oil on boats. Cost about $50.00 at West Marine. You just stick the hose in and pump the oil out.

Fat Gino, for me there was never a second option. After I saw my first Sapphire Silver coupe going up 95 I was knocked out by the looks. In my opinion, this was the first serious ,elegant, awesome looking car since the 63 split window corvette. I think it has more than enough power stock. After all I didn't buy it to race it. I bought mine to enjoy how it handles, rides and looks. In my view, this is the first true American 2 seater since the corvette that sets itself apart from any other competion in the catagories of styling, handling and luxury. I think it's destined to be an American classic.
Next, to change the oil, the filter is on top of the engine, right in front of the intake. The drain plug is on the bottom of the oil pan. You will need 8.5 qts of oil. They say that you should use 0-40w Mobil one.
Being in the new car dealership business for the last 44 years, I could have obtained about any car I could want but none have impressed me anywhere near as much as the Crossfire. I have owned Corvettes, Mustangs, 300Z's,450SL,GTO's,Camaro's,Cuda's,and even a Viper. By the way, the Viper was very fast but built with very bad quality parts and construction especially for a car that costs what that one did.
To me the Crossfire is totally unique and by itself in body lines, styling and interior design. It stands out like few other cars out there today.

harry7:

Thanks for the tip - I'll be looking for an oil pump this weekend.

x-fire woody:

Same here; I wasn't looking for a race car either. I owned faster cars and they always turned out to have more power than I could ever use in a legal sense. I think you said it best with the one word - UNIQUE. Thanks

Welcome Fat Gino,

The styling did it for me. I bought it without ever having driven one. The handling is great and I have never looked forward to driving any car as much as this one.

I did want a bit more pep. The K&Ns and the Upsolute met that need.

Happy driving!

Saldous, the badge on the back is the nameplate from the dealership I bought it from. I have since removed it. I was wondering about the K&N's. Did you have to make any serious alterations to the air intake system to put those on? As for the Upsolute chip, did it affect your warranty or cause any unwanted changes in the car's electronics systems?
I agree with Fat Gino, I have owned much faster cars but they just didn't stick to the raod as well as my Crossfire or styling wise in my eyes, look anywhere near as beautiful as our Crossfires do. I'm sure the situation where ever you go someone is always telling you how beautiful your car is or "what is that" or "that is the most awesome car I've ever seen" has happened and continues to happen just about everywhere you go. That's a very cool thing in itself. Part of the mystic of the Crossfire. That's why I sort of hope they don't build too many of them.

Dan Root, I agree it is made up of a massive amount of German parts but the corvette has a huge amount of parts made in Mexico, Indonesia, and various other countries as well. Does that make it unamerican? Almost all American cars now have a generous amount of unamerican parts in them. Our Crossfires wear the American Chrysler badge and for me that's American enough. At least it isn't wearing the MB badge or BMW or some other nations badge, yes?

Saldous, I apologize. My question about the K&N's should have been addressed to RayF. My apologies to Ray as well. I'm getting old. My memory seems to be fading abit . LOL! It's a shame in a way, I finally have the car I love the most and I'm not as young as I'd like to be to "enjoy " it the way I would have say 25 years ago. LOL!!

IMHO The flaw in this point of view regarding the XFire is that at least the multi-national parts for the Corvette were bolted together in Detroit, MI. The German bits of the XFire were bolted together in Osnabruck - the farthest west my car has ever been is Banbury!

I asked the Michelin website for a route from Osnabruck to my front door and it said, "451 mi in 07h59 including 437 mi in 06h32 on expressways". Mmmm... Geographically not very American.

However, as you rightly point out, it's got a bloody great Chrysler badge on it!

Dunno. Call it what you want. I like it.

Personally, it was the fact that no one knows what it is and that there aren't too many out there. Actually where I live I'm the only one who has one. Plus, the lease deal was too good to pass up.

I got my '05 Roadster because the lease on my CTS was ending soon and I didn't have enough miles on it, so my better-half made me look for a fun car that we could buy out-right so we didn't always give the dealer the cars back with leftover miles. Actually we're mostely a GM family(we get the discount from my Father's retirement from GM) but decided to drive through the Chrysler lot one day. My mother-in-law just got a Pacifica and he thought I should look at those. They were ok, but looked too much like a "soccer mom's" car and being that all my kids are grown up now, I didn't care to get into one of those. I saw a couple silver xf coupes in the back lot, but my hubby wasn't as drawn to them as I was. Then when we were driving out of the lot we saw this white xf roadster. It was a dream. It was one of the coolest cars I've seen in a long time, and luckily he liked the Roadster's style. Went back the next day and bought it. I am turning in my CTS the 15th (2 days) and am 4,000 miles short of the lease contract, but I can't seem to take that car out of the garage. Everytime I have to go anywhere, the xf pulls me right in and makes me take it! Guess it's not so practical to lease when you have multiple cars to drive. A single car doesn't get enough miles on it to make it worth it.

Wishing you just as much fun with your new toy, Fat Gino!

Woody, The K&Ns are so simple even I can do them. Take out the old and pop in the new.

As for thec Upsolute, I've heard folks relay different conversations they have had with their dealerships. This has the potential to be a warranty issue, but I don't plan on sharing this information with my dealer. I have had NO negative impact as a result of the Upsolute and I'm a big fan.

Ray, thanks . I agree with you that the Upsolute is a good inexpensive way to give one's non-SRT crossfire a nice boost without getting so radical as some of the other methods I've read about. I am going out this weekend and get the K&N's. I appreciate the advice. That is what is so great about this forum. Basically only crossfire owners are here and the sharing of information and ideas between us is just wonderful. Different points of view and levels of knowdledge exchanged freely. As far as I'm concerened we have a real nice " club" right here. I'm going for the Upsolute very soon.

Whoops, bugger, sorry. ops: Ignorance abounds. I didn't even know there was a GM factory in KY! Oh well, that's something else I've learned today.

Thanks
