X-Fires and Harleys
X-Fires and Harleys
Hi to all my Crossfire family. I know many of you are also Harley lovers and die hard riders. Nothing better than seeing both classic machines side by side in my garage. I've sold a few of my bikes thru the years, but mostly to close friends I knew were capable riders or the bikes weren't running at the time.I need advice on how to sell a bike that looks and runs in mint condition. I know most buyers want a test drive, but I wouldn't trust just anybody to jump on the bike. Do I ask for money up front? Do I ride them as a passenger? Hold their first born hostage?LOL(just kidding) Any advice would be welcomed.
Re: X-Fires and Harleys
When I was looking at bikes and wanted a test ride I had to show money, then they took a copy of my license and insurance.
I just pulled this off of yahoo and it seems to be a pretty good idea... I would still make sure they have the right endorsement and insurance though.
"The best way to do this is to write up a bill of sale with the provision that they can return the bike within say one half hour in the same condition as it left. If the bike is damaged or crashed - no return. Get the cash money and both of you sign the bill of sale and wording SALE IS FINAL AT 6:00 PM. for example. This will sort the serious buyers from the joy riders. No money - no ride."

Re: X-Fires and Harleys
When I sold my bikes I just had a written agreement for a test ride. It was a written "you damage it, you buy it" kind of deal while I held the cash in hand.
Personally, I wouldn't buy a bike under the 30 minute test ride provision because all they have to do is refuse to give you your money back until the allocated time or "go use the restroom" or the old "I'll be right back" and then you are stuck with it. Never underestimate the stupidity of people.

How did you know? It was a 1960 XLCH Sportster. Top of the line at the time. The My brother had a KR. I sold him the CH. . I rode my Norton 750 Atlas, hit the target every time.

Hard to get wax to stick on the big dog mutt. Believe me, I've tried ....
Re: X-Fires and Harleys
Strange, I have a '64 fury taken apart in priimer that I have a rebuildable 440 and 727 for. A 2009 Nightrod with 700 miles that never gets ridden in Black w/orange stripe and a 2004 xfire coupe in white. Our dog is medium in size, a mutt, and is like yours, black.
Re: X-Fires and Harleys
I have had bikes since I was 5 yrs old. I have an old fatboy now I restored and ride around. I have owned Kawasaki's as well, ninja/eleminator from the 80's era. Bike people know what they want. You usually can tell who can ride and who can't after a short conversation. I fire them up, give them the history, take it or leave it....NO test rides. Dealers do test rides, they have insurance. I don't...take it or leave it. No tire kickers....lol....
