Default Split Windshield

Does anyone know if the "split" style windshield that appeared on the original concept Crossfire is available for acquisition? (reminds me of my 50 Ford coupe I had in 1956).. Carl

If I remember correctly, the concept had a 1 piece windshield. The wiper parks in the middle making it appear split...

In my opinion one of the "neatest" features of the concept. I wish they would have carried it over to the production model.

You could always use a piece of silver electrical tape down the inside of your windshield to achieve the look from a distance.

Yea, he did, but what does the 'backside' of silver electrical tape look like through glass ?

James1549::I think you are correct...it does "look" like a split. Also the configeration of the windshield looks akin to the 55,56,57 "pan0ramic" style of the Chevy windshield...Carl

As I recall Eric Stoddard had the same renditions in his musing sketches for Crossfire 2.0.

I too wish it had been carried thru to production.

I'm coming from a waaaay different era regarding the split windshield. In this case you can see that it continues over the top. It also continues all the way down the back, even though there is a built in cover for the spare tire. This is my favorite car of all time. Bugatti Atlantic.

The French always did have a sense of the dramatic over the practical. I owned 2 Renault Fuegos and loved the way they looked. I always got questions about them, though not as many as the Crossfire.

Jim, actually the first Atlantic was made of Elektron (a magnesium alloy) - which was either impossible or extremely difficult to weld (at that time). The other three bodies were made of aluminum but since everyone liked the 'riveted seam' they stuck with it.

By the by, if I was making a split windshield, I'd use raised metal both inside and out. Yes, you could look down the edge and see that it was a fake divider, but it would have the split window look.

A few years ago, Warren Mosler was making race cars with a split windshield, there was an angle at the split and his cars were friggin fast. When they went to market, though, he was talked into ditching the split wshield in favor of one piece based on customer appeal. His ideas were based on function only. They were called MT900's if my memory serves me, after Mosler and Trenne, his partner. I don't know if they are still made or not.

I like the 'split' look of the rear glasss where they kept the center spine of the car. That would be cool...

I think it would be really annoying while driving. You would be constantly moving your head to see around the center connection. I think it would have been better if they put a split window in the back like the vette had for one year.

Keep in mind that the "split window" was actually the windshield wiper blade.
