Default Estimated Miles Per Gallon

Hello, had my crossfire about 6 weeks so far. It's a 2004 regular, and supposed to get 21 city, 28 highway. So far, however, it seems to be averaging around 19 miles per gallon, about half of that on the highway. Variables include that I use the heated seat most of the time, and the A/C, heat regularly, but that shouldn't be too terrribly bad for the MPG. I also drive my car perhaps a bit too much with hitting the accelerator and breaking, in my driving style, so that;s more likely to affect the fuel efficiency, but not I believe to this degree. Thoughts? Should I complain to the dealer, or have other people gotten less than the 21/28.

I have had my xfire for about 2 1/2 weeks now and i too have noted poor gas milage. I am down around 20 as well. My driving is no different than when i had my acura rsx type s which lists highway at 31. I would get close to 37 and now i am not getting barely 20.

I too use my heat seaters constantly and have heat on as well. maybe the missing piece of this puzzle is the seat heater?

i am hoping a chip and K&N's will help me get close to the 28 mark

I think the driving style has a lot to do with the mileage, as does the seat heat and other things you mentioned. How many miles do you have on your car. I think that after it's broken in a little the mileage will get better. Also, what octaine fuel do you use? I have 1,500 miles on my '05 Roadster and use mostely 23 octane. Last time I was Highway driving I got around 28mpg.

I use 93 octane, I've had the COupe for around 1500 miles as well. What are the estimates for the 05 Roadster...again, I know mine is 21/28.

Yes, sorry, I meant 93 octane also. My '05 roadster is the same as yours, 21/28. They are the same, it also says on the sticker that they average between 17 and 25 in the city, and between23 and 33 on the highway depending on options, driving conditions and driving habits.

I have had my car now for 22k miles and am getting about 23mpg on my "over the hill" comute from Santa Cruz to San Jose ( California ). Driving habits " lead foot " have very much to do with mileage.

My car is the six speed, which is supposed to get worse gas mileage and I am getting around 360 miles per tank and that breaks down to about 23 mpg. On 3 hour drive to Texas I got around 26 mpg.

I always thought more gears and a Manual trans gets better mileage? I guess it's all depending on how you drive, anyway.

Smile Re: Estimated Miles Per Gallon

I have 21,000 miles on my 04 6 speed coupe and get a consistent 25 - 28 mpg most of my driving is on the highway perhaps 75 - 80 %. I use only 93 octane gas and every tankful the speedometer usually finds itself close to 100 mph at least once

I find it easier to count my smiles per gallon - I get at least 40 even on a bad day.

If you're using your A/C daily, then you're burning more gas than the average person. That's the problem with new cars, we can't use the heat without turning on the A/C. With the older cars, that was never necessary. The heated seats shouldn't have anything to do with gas. What you should take in to account is traffic and how long you're idling sitting in it.

What's the heater got to do with mileage?

I don't believe the heater switch uses the A/C compressor with the exception when you have it on defrost (even that I'm not 100% sure about in the Xfire). Unless they have changed design significantly enough to eliminate the heater rad core under the dash/at the firewall, there has never been a need to use the A/C compressor for heating the interior.

Any other comments on this?

Your right about the heated seats. They are strictly electical and would have no more affect than putting the headlights on at night.

The lowest mileage I have ever gotten in my 6 speed is 20. That's 100% in town with the A/C on. On 100% highway without the A/C I have gotten as much as 30. The 6 speed is rated at 17/24. For my normal driving mix I usually get around 23.

You're right Mbepic, if you're heating the interior, the A/C doesn't need to be turned on, but if you're deforsting the windshield, the A/C has to be turned on or the windshield and windows will fog up.

I get 22 mpg consistently. I have 5000 miles on my coupe. 65/35 highway and city driving.

The best I've ever done was 27 on a road trip (all highway). This was a tank of gas purchased in New Jersey. I believe that MA requires additives in their gas which knocks down the gas mileage.

Maybe I'm just a lead foot?!?

the heater doesn't effect the mileage but your fuel economy will go down in colder weather for a variety of reasons (increasing density of air requires more fuel, oxygenated fuel, vehicle warm ups, etc.)
