Estimated Miles Per Gallon
Estimated Miles Per Gallon
Hello, had my crossfire about 6 weeks so far. It's a 2004 regular, and supposed to get 21 city, 28 highway. So far, however, it seems to be averaging around 19 miles per gallon, about half of that on the highway. Variables include that I use the heated seat most of the time, and the A/C, heat regularly, but that shouldn't be too terrribly bad for the MPG. I also drive my car perhaps a bit too much with hitting the accelerator and breaking, in my driving style, so that;s more likely to affect the fuel efficiency, but not I believe to this degree. Thoughts? Should I complain to the dealer, or have other people gotten less than the 21/28.

Re: Estimated Miles Per Gallon
I have had my xfire for about 2 1/2 weeks now and i too have noted poor gas milage. I am down around 20 as well. My driving is no different than when i had my acura rsx type s which lists highway at 31. I would get close to 37 and now i am not getting barely 20.
I too use my heat seaters constantly and have heat on as well. maybe the missing piece of this puzzle is the seat heater?
i am hoping a chip and K&N's will help me get close to the 28 mark

I use 93 octane, I've had the COupe for around 1500 miles as well. What are the estimates for the 05 Roadster...again, I know mine is 21/28.

Last time I was Highway driving I got around 28mpg.

Re: Estimated Miles Per Gallon
If you're using your A/C daily, then you're burning more gas than the average person. That's the problem with new cars, we can't use the heat without turning on the A/C. With the older cars, that was never necessary. The heated seats shouldn't have anything to do with gas. What you should take in to account is traffic and how long you're idling sitting in it.

What's the heater got to do with mileage?
I don't believe the heater switch uses the A/C compressor with the exception when you have it on defrost (even that I'm not 100% sure about in the Xfire). Unless they have changed design significantly enough to eliminate the heater rad core under the dash/at the firewall, there has never been a need to use the A/C compressor for heating the interior.
Any other comments on this?
Your right about the heated seats. They are strictly electical and would have no more affect than putting the headlights on at night.

Re: Estimated Miles Per Gallon
I get 22 mpg consistently. I have 5000 miles on my coupe. 65/35 highway and city driving.
The best I've ever done was 27 on a road trip (all highway). This was a tank of gas purchased in New Jersey. I believe that MA requires additives in their gas which knocks down the gas mileage.
Maybe I'm just a lead foot?!?
