Cheapest way to make it sound better?
I have a completely stock 2004 chrysler crossfire. Im looking to make it sound good with a $100 +/- budget. I want it to stay stock with maybe a couple bolt on parts... Nothing permanent.
Engine/exhaust sound or stereo?
I'm guessing exhaust, most stereo upgrades don't involve "bolt on" parts. It will be hard to do anything non permanent or easily reversible for that money. The options are CAT back exhaust kits from several makers, deleting the CATs, changing the muffler, deleting the resonator. Deleting things probably would not cost a ton but undoing it would entail bigger bucks.
Unless you are in California,,,,,delete the back cats.
EZ PEZY
Most Private muffler shops can do it under your budget.
Will they is another matter.

If this keeps up, there will be a ton of crappy maintained and sounding XFs on the market over the coming years. Nice stock units will sell for a premium (hint). They are also relatively easier to maintain.
While that's a neat trick, they don't sound like the V8 muscle cars I owned. Also, I thought the idea was for those outside the car to hear and feel the power but those inside are virtually isolated unless the window is down. I know that there are several high end manufacturers who are actually adding to the sound by piping it into the passenger compartment but I just don't get that.
I disagree. The noise is for the driver only. No one around the neighborhood wants to hear it. And on longer trips, the novelty of that noise wears off really fast.
You made my point! The noise gets old fast, hence keeping the cabin isolated. I didn't mean that the sound outside would be so loud as to be obnoxious just a deeper rumble and blat under hard acceleration. That's what I am aiming for anyway, in removing the rear CATs and resonator and adding a smaller inline resonator from Yonaka, retaining the stock muffler.
I removed my rear Cats while in Florida for $100 and the sound is as a nicer growl when under some load (before the SC kicks on of course) However my buddy had an N/A and he removed his cats and it sounds great under full load.
OBX exhaust is the best bang for your buck but will roughly triple your budget. However it does meet your requirements as an easily reversible bolt on.
I know other forum members have tried various cheap mufflers (generic Cherry Bombs, Magnaflow, etc. cans), but in general using one will require thinking, design, and welding which won't be as easily reversible and will blow your budget unless you can DIY it.
IMO you're not going to get a great solution in that price range. Spend a little more and get a bolt-on catback. If you (or the next owner of your car) don't like it you can take it right back off and sell it here.

It is hard, HARD, to make a V6 exhaust sounds good. I am on version five.
