Default Windshield washer problems

This past weekend my washer would not spray so I figured it was just out since I have never added any. I stopped and got a gallon and it just kept taking and taking it until I noticed it was running out from under the car. I have it scheduled for the dealer tommorrow but was just curious if any of you guys have seen this? thanks Mike

Known issue. On the cover of the washer fill-up bit under the bonnet it does say not to over fill it.

If it wouldn't spray to begin with, it's probably not overfilled. My guess would be that the hose connected to the reservoir came loose allowing the fluid to drain out.

The fluid you saw running under the right side of the car was the overflow. The way the neck of the almost two gallon container is constructed, you could not see when it is full in time for spillage on the MB engine compartment.......heavens. The overfow tube is designed to keep the fluid out of the engine bay.

Since your addition of a mear on gallon produced an overflow, I would suspect that you either have a clogged line or the electrics aren't hooked up or the pump motor is bad.

Just to update on this problem. The day I was taking it in for service I tried the washer and it worked fine but I still thought it may be cracked so I took it anyway. The service guy stated it was fine and it also was full so what must have happened is the hose or the nozzles were froze and I just thought it may be empty since I had never added any. I did not know it holds 7.5 quarts! The service manager says there is a overflow that it runs out of if someone tries to overfill it. I guess that is exactly what happened. Just thought I would relay this back since it may help someone in the future. Mike

Isnt the windshield washer fluid holder supposed to be heated in the Xfire? if yes then sounds like you still have a problem....Im sure I read that the widshield washer fluid is heated to keep it from freezing......i'll hunt it out...

btw, where did you buy your Xfire? Im in Alexandria and in dire need of a good dealer i can trust.

actually it looks like only the nozzles are heated

from the Chrysler crossfire website, 'limited' feature:

'Heated exterior mirrors and washer nozzles'

I guess you just need to get some good anti-freezing washer fluid and the nozles will do the rest :-)

My windshield wiper fluid went dry on my way to the airport, so it say for a week dry. I think it crusted over. I removed the nozzles and they are soaking in vinegar. Never let them put water in the reservoir, you gotta stop them during your oil change or they'll do that.

There are electrical wires going to the nozzles, wtf? These people never heard of "Keep It Simple Stupid"

A bit of thought on the nozzle hearers is required to get the point of them. Did you take the nozzles apart as the problem maybe behind the jets?

I got the nozzles off, soaked them in vinegar for a couple hours, then put the whole thing back together. It works ok. the drivers side doesn't squirt that well, but it works.

You have to take the ball nozzle out of the nozzle housing to clean it properly and then pump fluid through the lines to clear out any junk in them. Run a fine wire through the nozzle jet hole.
