Cool Auto vs 6 spd Poll

Someone suggested it might be useful to know the number Auto Trans vs 6 speeds;
Let's take it a step further.

Cool Re: Auto vs 6 spd Poll

bump bump

This poll may prove something else if statistical calculations are a reflection of the real numbers;
So far the numbers voted for 2004 far exceed that of 2005;
To early to tell but we might find in the end that the number of 2004's sold was a result of first year impulsive buyers and things have cooled down somewhat for 2005.

Wait and see.

I bought my 2004 in 2005 though, couldnt resist the deal, I suppose that could be considered a impulse right? I was going to buy one of those new Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupes, but I saw an add for this in the paper and bought it the same day. Wow that really was an impulse buy wasnt it, oh well im happy with my crossfire.

Yea, recent low prices for new 2004s may be the reason too.

You're only 20 Kyle; give it a couple more years.

I do agree with a real mans car though.

I have an autostick and think it kills the manual, which I think sucks in the crossfire. 6 gears is great if they were not a pain in the butt to shift like the crossfire's. for such a nice car they really screwed the pooch on that crummy manual. took me two test drives in the manual before I knew I would never own one. It took two test drives because I wished the stick did not feel so horrible, fantasy, it still drove like crap the second time around.

My old honda had a much smoother manual and it cost me 1200.00 for that car in college. maybe the germans wanted to force us to use their autostick.

you can put me in the impusle buy catagory. Went to the Scottish car show and placed a order one week later. The car is great but the service dept is no where near that statement.

They don't call me "quick draw" for nothing you know.

I don't understand the complaining about the 6speed shift. For those of you having problems with the shifter, I would suggest that the linkage is not adjusted properly; if you look underneath the car, there is some adjustment both to stop the popping out of gear and otherwise sticky shifting.

I have never had a problem with mine and never had to adjust but I can see that adjustment can be made; also there is a TSB on the shift linkage problems.

I guess I have just been lucky but I would try to resolve your problem with the shifter
before giving up on the fact that it is just a poor working shifter/transmission.

BTW, if allowed to make any change in my transmission, I would change the first gear ratio slightly so it is not as low as it is, but that is another story. Not an easy adjustment.

I can see from the poll that the SRT-6 is selling like hotcakes.

the 6-speed would be perfect if it was a 5-speed! That would solve the low problem that mbepic sited which I heartly agree with. I just couldn't by that car with and auto. Takes all the fun out of it. People that buy the auto are just lazy, and don't tell me it is an auto stick so you can tap it to shift. that is not a stick shift. Plus I bet 90% of the time you just step on the gas -step on the brake etc etc etc

the three previous cars i've owned were all manual 5 or 6 speeds. i test drove an autostick crossfire and actually enjoyed it. later i drove a 6 speed and realized that starting out and 1-2 shifts were trickier to perform smoothly than for the other cars i'd owned. and with the modest power i didn't get any more thrill out of driving the 6 speed. i bought the autostick and am glad i did. since then i have noticed that many crossfire reviews mention something negative about the 6 speed. terms like "vague", "clunky", or "balky" are common. they can't all be wrong. but most reviewers that drove autostick-equipped crossfires commented very positively on it. edmunds even stated that they were glad they reviewed the autostick roadster instead of getting another 6 speed. not to mention there seem to be more problems with the 6 speed. and don't forget the autostick gets better fuel economy. even the early crossfire owners who tried autocross did it in their autosticks.

the main advantage of owning a 6 speed crossfire is that you spent $1K less to get one. and there's nothing wrong with that.

Come on Greg, that's not shifting. You can do that with any ole Auto Trans.
I remember driving my parents 63 Ford (you know back when) and I thought I was shifting moving that column lever from 1 to 2 to the big 'D'. Is that what you call shiftiing? What a thrill that was!

mbepic - LOL....

Please forgive my ignorance.... WTF do you do when you "change" gears? Is there some magical process that only manual transmissions have? Give me a break... becasue I don't have a clutch pedal I'm somehow inferior... whatever....

I'll agree to disagree and one day you'll be driving an automatic because there won't be anymore manual transmission...
