Default Need Help & Advice (steering)

My car makes a slight clunk noise in the steering when turning at a slow speed.
The most noticeable time is in a tight car park. It is something i can feel in the steering wheel and I can also hear it too. The dealership has told me that this is "a characteristic of the car" which i don't think is the case. They have said the "noise" or "knock" for a better word is a release valve ... something to do with the power steering. I am going for a drive with a guy from Daimler Chrysler in a week so i can show him first hand. Can people tell me wether this is a characteristic of their car? I am in Australia so the steering wheel is on the left hand side. The more people i can get to tell me that this is not the case with their car the better.

I think there is a TSB about the radiator hose getting in the way of the steering column. Check out the TSB section.

mine does it as well...knock knock knock as you feel the slop back in forth. it is the recirculating ball steering rack...which is very dated and a horrible design with no driver feedback. every auto magazine comments on it. it is what it is...i just look at the exteriors beautiful design to get over some of the crossfire's flaws.

Mr first Crossfire had this problem (around 9500 build number)......it turned out to be the steering gear. Make sure that if your dealer replaces the gear they have the equipment to perform an alignment afterwards or your steering wheel will be off-center and your tires will suffer.
