Question Pulled fuse on wing - change gas mileage?

I find the wing a bit annoying. I don't think it should pop up until you run past 90 mph or so. I found out something. If you pull the fuse and run the car over 85mph it will beep at you. At least I guess that's why it was beeping???

Does anybody think the wing affects gas mileage?

the wing's effectiveness has been discussed before. maybe do a search. as for the gas mileage, im not too sure. without the wing, there is less drag, so maybe itll give you a tick more MPG, but i dont think its anything you would notice.

The Spoiler deploys to keep the back end of the car on the road. Your life and those of other road users are not worth the few cents you will save. If you need to get better gas mileage, then drive more economically. Drop into top when you can. I've managed 427 miles on one tank, without disabling the spoiler.

Yes, you're absolutely right. I didn't buy the car for gas mileage. I'm going to put the fuse back in before I drive it again. I read that the spoiler generates 356 Newtons (80 pounds) of down force to the rear of Crossfire at 130 km/h (near 80 mph). I have a theory if the Xfire get lighter the faster you go then all of that lift could hurt gas mileage and by deploying the spoiler may actually improve mileage.

Another thing is I tend to drive this car faster than I do any of the other cars I own. If I don't put the Xfire in cruise control I will gradually keep speeding up. I've hit 90mph before I realized it. I have not had a ticket since 1977 but if I ever get another one it'll probably be in my Crossfire!

Hi Wayne - I hear yah about the "X" factor while driving.... I have yet to break 20 MPG and I'm sure its my driving habits. Just today, wait for like 6 cars in the right lane or be first in the left lane and goose it on the green light (and I wonder why I can't break 20!). What are you getting for miles to the gallon?

Of course I easily get over 50 SPD (Smiles Per Drive) so its all good....

BTW I got my first speeding ticket in my SRT-4 about 8 months after moving to CA. Went to traffic school and cleared it from my record... let's see I think I've only got another few months and I can get another speeding ticket... not!

It seems that the gauge does drop a little faster than it should but the first tank I got 24 mpg the second I got 25 mpg and the third was also around 25. This tank full I'm on now is looking much better because I have done more highway driving. I actually got about 100 miles on the first mark on the gauge (1/6). Usually I only get 80 miles.
