Air conditioning problems
While driving (and bragging about my car to an out of town guest) the a/c and blower motor quit working and the cabin filled with light smoke and the smell of burnt wiring. After 30 minutes and before I took it to chrysler the a/c and blower started working again. The dealer tells me it had tree leaves and a feather in the blower assembly causing the short circuit. I explained to the dealer the car is garaged at home and it is under a carport (designated parking) at work. He further commented that an animal is burrowing in the blower motor (sounds like bs). I insisted that this is extremely unlikely and it would appear the most logical thing would be to replace the blower and relay switch, which chrysler agreed to do. My question (finally) has anyone experienced this problem. thanks bigD
I just had this same problem - this morning - and could really use some help;
A/C quit, compressor runs, no fan action, brief smell of electrical burn.
After reading up in these forums, I dropped the interior panels, located the blower and cabin air filter. Inspected and cleaned the filter, which was in great shape at 3 yrs. Found a small amount of debris in the blower box, which had been causing that little ticking or rubbing noise many have experienced. By the way - the biggest culprits seem to be pine needles, and the little catkins (males flowers) from maple trees.
No evidence of burnt wiring, no burned debris.
So here are my questions;
I understand there is a resistor (both blower and resistor appear to be about $250 ea.!!) - where exactly can I find this resistor?
Can anyone advise on how to test both blower and resistor, to determine which is faulty?
Does the resistor, or blower fan, have a thermal overload built-in that will reset after some cooling down?
Is there also a relay which may be bad?
I should still be under warranty, but have not gone to the dealer yet...it's always unpleasant. I'd like to fully understand the problem and make checks myself before going.
Money for repairs is a serious, serious problem, so any DIY help here is more appreciated than I can say.
Thanks for helping out, and thanks for all the good info I've already found on this board. I really appreciate any guidance I can get.
Best Regards...TF

Not to highjak or anything but anyone who can give me some leads on where to buy a blower motor without dealing with the local deal would be a huge help.
Replaced the resistor a few weeks ago and was working great, but huge rain came through now system will not run at all.
Thanks.

Got mine fixed last week by the dealer, under warranty.
Needed blower and resistor. Turned out that debris had lodged in the grate at the bottom of the windshield, and had blocked a drain, diverting water into the electrics.
Looks like keeping that grate clear at all times is important.
Sorry I can't help with the sourcing, although when I looked the prices was the same; about $250 each.
Good Luck...TF
