Mercedes Space Saver Spare Tire
Re: Mercedes Space Saver Spare Tire
Mark R. -
I just purchased the same spare tire that you are selling. I purchased it on ebay since I am in MI, far from GA. This spare fits fine on the rear of my SRT, but not on the front. On the front, the brake caliper interferes with the spare's wheel. I am not sure if the caliper is different on the SRT, or not. I was more concerned about the rear. It turns out that the front was the issue.
Just a heads up for those that are considering purchasing a spare.
The original longer bolts worked fine (on the rear).

Re: Mercedes Space Saver Spare Tire
We no longer have the car, so I currently can't check it.
But I'm pretty certain it fit fine on our 2004 (not an SRT).
I distinctly remember test fitting it on both the front and rear.
Also, Toolman's post above confirms this on his car as well.
The front brakes must be different on the SRT models.
I'll take $100 for it. That's well less then I paid.
Brand new. Never touched the road yet.

Re: Mercedes Space Saver Spare Tire
Guys
There were two different spare tires used on the first gen MB SLK's. The SLK320 (Crossfire Base/Limited) had 16" wheels on those models, but on the MB SLK32 (Crossfire SRT6), those SLK models had 17" wheels due to the larger brakes (discs & Calipers) for clearance. If you have a Base/Limited Crossfire, you can use either a 16" or 17" space saver tire. The SRT6 will require a 17" or larger wheel for fitment reasons. Keep in mind, the sidewall aspect of the SLK320/32 had tires with either a 60 or 55 sidewall as compared to the low profile tires of 40/35 on the Crossfire.
Another aspect of adding a "spare", is the calculation related to the tire diameter of the rear tire that is currently on your Crossfire. If the measurements are unequal between the spare and the existing tire, that difference will cause harm to the rear differential if the spare is used over an extended mileage use. The fitment on the front end is not impacted by the size difference, except for the ride and steering capabilities.
Unless the spare comes with the shorter lug nuts, they must be purchased, since the spare is a steel wheel vs. the cast standard wheels on the Crossfire.
Do your research, to confirm fitment before you buy a spare....

Re: Mercedes Space Saver Spare Tire
Good information Dennis, and good point regarding the diameter/circumference of the rear tires. I have had a 18" rim in the attic since I sold my first two Crossfires in 2007 and 2009. So, I ended up buying a 255/40R18 for that rim. The 255/40R18 diameter of 26" matches the rear axle 255/35R19 tires. If I happen to get a flat on a front tire, I will just be riding 0.9" high on that side until I get to a destination. I know that it is not ideal to have a 50lb spare in my coupe trunk, but at least I have that option if I am considering a lengthy trip.
Re: Mercedes Space Saver Spare Tire
Just to clarify, this compact spare is not a steel wheel, so it does use the longer lug bolts.
It still has the brand new sticker on it which clearly shows that (6th picture down in Post #15 above).
This wheel definitely fits on the front and rear of the non-SRT Crossfires.
My plan was to use it simply to get the car off the side of the road.
