Cd Changer
I want to put a cd changer in my crossfire, but my dad is real "cautious" about taking out the stock player in the car. What is the best model for the crossfire that is a perfect fit and should install easy? I want to keep the speakers, just want a cd changer. Also on the side if I can't get the cd changer installed then does anyone know if they sell cdr's that hold a lot more that 80 minutes of music. That would be my second option if the cd changer doesn't work out. It would be easy to throw a sh*tload of songs onto one cd then like 18 on one.
You need a new device. The stock cd only plays regular audio cds. mp3 is a data compression technique. The same you maybe use on your computer for listen to downloaded music. Or with the ipod (similar). mp3-compatible radios aren't much more expensive than regular ones. But I still haven't found one i like the look.
Don't be fooled with the Alpine color if you're buying it on the net or catalog. They don't match the silver dash color plus Kenwood and Pioneer have iPod interface now and they carry different colors like brushed aluminum and silver that would match our consoles better...
Thanks for your advice. Mostly I check them at a store before I buy them anyway. And furthermore I don't have an ipod. I don't like the overpriced toffee apples.
On the subject of music in the Crossfires, are any of you guys US residents??
The reason I ask is because I am after a device from Wal-Mart that will allow me to use my Creative Labs Zen Touch MP3 player in the car.
I live in the UK and due to restrictions over here with radio devices... I can't buy directly over the net...
Anybody's fancy popping into Wal-Mart for me and buying a "Belkin Tunecast II FM Transmitter"??
Part Number is F8V3080 and they cost about $34.
I'll send you the cash and you can post it on to me here in the UK?
Cheers.

Are you saying that the stock Infinity branded head unit is actually a Becker system?
And that the Becker Silverstone will plug straight in – hard wired? Not via an FM transmitter?
Do you have the model/part #’s?
Thank you.
The head unit is a Becker. The speakers and amp (I think) are Infinity. I've talked to Becker and was told that the standard stock radio doesn't have the capability to control a CD changer, not does it have any kind of aux input for an MP3 player. However, in another thread, someone said that the radio with navigation does have CD changer controls.
Yes it is a Becker system.
Becker and infinity are the same company.
As for model no's I am not sure but I understand it is a Becker Silverstone 6 disc changer which will plug straight into the standard head unit.
I know this because I got a quote to have a changer added to the head unit and they got back to me the next day and told me it was made by Becker.
I have been quoted £260/$470 to have it supplied and fitted.
I have not had it fitted yet as I have been spending my money on other things.
I am keen to keep the stock head unit as it matches the dash.

My friend just came back from his holiday in FL and brought me a FM transmitter. Just plug a mp3 player or similar and tune the frequency on the radio. Nice little thing. And it is a transmitter to the antenna there's no wiring needed.

if you buy a new head unit (whichever one it is, whether its an in-dash MP3 player or a CD-changer compatible unit) make sure you get the wiring harness adapter Scosche VW01 (it usually comes free if you order your head unit from www.sounddomain.com or www.crutchfield.com) and a Metra 40-EU10 (Best Buy, $15) antenna adapter. and use the RCA pre-outs, not the speaker outputs of the new head unit.
