I am really wanting to remove the cig lighter and the ring around it, It feels like it just snaps in. Do I have to remove the bezel or can I simply pull the lighter and ring out?

It is retained at the back by two snaps, You cannot do it from the front, from the rear you have to jiggle it past one snap at an angle and then past the other snap. It was not designed to come out easily.
So you have to remove the ashtray module which is a trick in itself.
