Default Ac question

I'm new to the crossfire world. Will a dirty cabin air filter cause your ac blower to turn on and off intermittently. My ac blows cold and then shuts off for about 3 min then comes back on. Sometimes it's less then 3 minutes and sometimes it's fine. Some say a dirty cabin air filter can make this happen just seeing if anyone has had this happen. Thank you

No highly unlikely. It is most likely this part https://www.autohausaz.com/pn/2108206210 and is easy to change.

I had exactly the same problem, tests showed that the regulator mentioned in Ronmans post was the culprit. Do not buy a cheap unbranded one , I did and it did not work from the start.
I have the one mentioned in Ronmans post on order.. That price is good, I paid more for it.

Thank you for all your help. I'm sure I will be posting more questions

I would start with checking the cabin air filter. IF it is very dirty the A/C could be tripping on high pressure. If it is not totally full, then at least you know if it needs replacing as it could be one part of your problem. Otherwise, you can wind up buying something you do not need (throwing parts at it). Since this might be a new purchase, if there is NO cabin air filter, your going to have to get one in there and potentially have to clean the A/C evaporator coil of dirt/dust and anything else the filter is supposed to keep off that evap coil. Good luck!

I just bought this car a few weeks ago and just got it out of the shop. $2,000 dollars of motor work, oil change, breaks, tune up, ac service and now it's doing this.. super hot in texas right now so I will check the filter tonight and if it keeps doing I will change the regulator and hope it solves the problem

That is not logical. If that was the case, it would "trip on high pressure" with the fan on position 1.
Additionally, when the A/C "trips" due to any issue, it disengages the clutch to the pump, but it does not stop the blower from running.

It's almost certainly the "blower motor resistor", as it has been so damn many times over the past twelve years.

I agree... Blower Motor Resistor. I've had to change it in 2 of my 3 cars when the blower fan started acting up (haven't had to change it in the Crossfire - yet.) Sometimes it will stick on high, sometimes only 1 or 2 speed settings will work. Sometimes it comes on and goes off intermittently. Sometimes the fan just fails to run all together. These resistors wear out over time because to adjust the speed of your blower motor they resist/restrict the power to the fan that causes it to run at speeds lower than High. If you bypass the resistor your fan will run on high constantly with no speed adjustment. So, when they act as a resistor they are converting electrical power fed into it into heat (which is why they have heat sinks on them with the sinks generally located inside the main air duct to cool them) and the power that isn't converted to heat is then passed on to the blower motor allowing it to run at speeds lower than High. You can actually almost burn yourself if you touch the heat sink on one that hasn't been allowed to cool down. Heat and electronics don't go well together - which is why they fail over time.

You make a good point. I haven't plugged the duct after the fan to see if the head recognizes a parameter that would shut down the system (compressor then fan), have you? A new fan resistor may fix this, maybe not. You and I both know this system is complicated and controlled by a control head (a lot of if this then that, OR if that then this). Fan position 1 does move air albeit at the lowest setting of the system capability. Since this is a new to him purchase AND the resistor is in the same position AND the filter is a maintenance item, why not check to see if a filter is there or totally plugged up? The OP mentioned some have mentioned having a plugged filter could cause this. I have seen airflow problems causing HVAC compressors to cycle and shut down the blower (Not in the crossfire but engineers love to complicate things and the manual doesn't get into the guts of the design of the system). Going along with that (and not knowing if a high pressure situation can cut the compressor THEN the fan within the head settings), is why I suggested he check the filter and if missing, the evap coil. I made no mention of a certainty, just helping the OP find, check, see if one is there and replace his filter before buying a blower resistor.

Before I posted I perused the entire HVAC system in my hard copy of the service manual to see if the refrigerant pressure switch is a high/low design and or on/off switching function, as you know the manuals aren't the most comprehensive and most certainly doesn't give a detailed design criteria. One more note, the fan potentiometer in the A/C head has failed before (erratic), and has a fix in the forum (I did the fix and it fixed my erratic fan operation). I didn't mention this YET because at least the basics should be checked and eliminated before spending money. Thanks for your input.
