Default A little help…

I must confess, I am not a mechanic. I have a 2006 crossfire six speed. Since it has gotten colder over the last month, I notice, when I come to a stop, my car is still idling very high before it finally settles down after a couple of seconds when I come to a stop. Can anyone direct me to the cause of this? I hope that my description makes sense. I checked all my fluids and they seem to be in order, so I’m wondering if it is mechanical or just needs a tuneup?

Also, the Crossfire recommends Pentosin CHf-11s fluid for the steering. Will standard steering fluid work as well?

1) Try this:

Warm engine up.
Put in neutral, set brake.
Raise hood.
Wait for engine to stabilize, (you said it stabilizes after a bit...)
Now, yank oil cap off.
..If the engine surges and idles erratically, good.
...if the engine does not react to the yanking of the cap, you have a hell of a vacuum leak. Fix it.

2) No need to use the wrong fluid, Pentosin is available everywhere.

3) The only "tune up" you can do is: replace air filters, replace 12 plugs, replace 12 plug wires, and maybe replace the crank sensor. If the car is near 100,000 miles, I'd do that anyway. I was having misfire and O2 codes like crazy around 96,000 with my Graphite and I changed all 12 plugs/wires and ALL of the trouble went away. Car ran way better, too.

Popped the cap and the engine surged erratically as you said. Checked all my fluids and they are solid. Any other factors? I have had the plugs changed a few months back. Was running tops then.

I might take it to Chrysler and have them run a diagnostic.

DO NOT GO TO CHRYSLER! IF you must take it in for work you cannot do find a European mechanic that works on MB SLK-320's. You'll get a huge bill with no help if you go to Chrysler (stealerships).

Make sure the cover that contains the air filters is properly seated all the way around, especially at the rear. I think that is where the MAF is. I am pretty good at this stuff but the last time I checked the air filters I failed to replace the cover properly and after a short time it started running like crap.
