Good way to remove power steering fluid?
I looked around the fill spot in the engine bay and saw a lot of bad ways to get power steering fluid out (mine is over max when cold and hot). I'm wondering how I am supposed to do it, correctly. Hypothetically, someone might have to empty it all one day. What's the process?
In a car I had long ago I used rolled up sheets of new clean very absorbent Bounty paper towels and soaked out the excess fluid with how ever many sheets it took although as ala_xfire said those are probably better ways to accomplish this
I intend to use my topsider to suck out as much as I can, not a perfect solution but at least the mix of old and new oil will be better the what is in there now. If it requires less than 1/2 a litre then I shall drive it a bit and do it again. With less than 35,000 miles the oil should not be too bad anyway.
A new video by MERCEDESSOURCE about servicing the power steering system. He sells 4 different kits and recommends a fluid change every 40K plus a reservoir change every 80K, as the filter is integrally mounted inside the reservoir.
