Default Headliner not attached by black screw clips in the back of my car?

Soooo...while I'm still dealing with a leak, I had to take apart my trunk to get a better look. Removed the beige trim panels in the trunk and pulled on the headliner assembly. All of a sudden it started hanging down on the left side (I left the beige panel and headliner attached on the right side).

While inspecting the headliner I noticed I do not see the black retainer pin that is supposed to hold the headliner in place in the trunk (see image).
it's almost looks like the previous owner had the headliner fabric replaced but they never made a cut out for the black retainer clip.
Now I'm just wondering how it was even held in place? Now it's hanging down so I need to figure out how I best attach that side again without the retainer clip.

Maybe it was only held in place by the beige trim panel? Would that be enough strength to hold the headliner in place?

It's just super weird that whoever re-did this headliner, must have wrapped the fabric over the clip and around the panel without punching a hole through the fabric where the retainer clip is supposed to attach.

Maybe I'm missing something or I'm not doing it right?

Thanks for any tips..

These cars are getting on in age and many have had multiple owners so not so surprising that the saggy headliner repair didn't include putting the rear clips back in place. Now's your chance to correct the error.

Love this car. I have had i since 2011 and it seems like someone before me never actually put the push pins back in place...
looked at some older posts last night and looks like the pin hole would be just about to where I circled correct?

Sometimes we waste our time on posting answers.
In post #17 of your leak thread I added a photo of the roof liner which shows the hole for the right hand side retainer pin.
There was no need to start another thread as you had already asked and been given the answer to this question.

Sorry not trying to waste your time. I just wasn't sure. I know you posted the picture I refered to above but just wanted to be sure. I did more reading and seems like besides the push pin the headliner is held in by the rubber from the weatherstrip around the windows.
If this is cluttering up the forum feel free to delete.

The push pins that hold up the headliner in the back are identical to the ones in the trunk that I gave you the link to in a previous post.

Ordered them! Have the black push pins and the white ones for the beige panel. I guess I was thrown off how the headliner was attached in the back if not with the correct pins.
But it would explain why the beige panels on my car used to sag down all the time because too much weight would rest on them.
Looking on the other side, the headliner is also held in place by the rubber window seal so that is where most of the weight is besides the beige panels on mine.
Going to find the opening for the pins, punch a little hole in the fabric and see if I can attach it "properly".

The liner is also held up at the centre rear by a strip of Velcro.
Forget what I said, it was basically for many members asking questions, getting the correct answer in the next post and then asking it again often in a new thread. You can be assured that most questions have been answered somewhere on the forum. Using Google is often the best method to use.
In your position with the damaged liner material and it hanging in place I would replace the material and save time in the future.

That small piece of velcro doesn't really hold. I added two other pieces to the left and right of it to help secure my headliner.

Thank you OneHundred80 and Tinman for all the help. It's funny because I saw the Velcro and was wondering if the previous owner/headliner replacement guys did that. But I also noticed that it could not possibly hold my headliner in place because it was barely making contact.
That might be the way to go, once I'm re-attaching the headliner I might just add two pieces of Velcro on each side as Ronman said. Thanks for that tip!

Two pieces would be best, but mine holds just fine. Those clear plastic Velcro like parts would be best, they are a bugger to separate. Just don’t use pieces that are two large.
